Sunderland is undergoing significant transformation and economic regeneration. We have an exciting opportunity for a permanent, full-time Building Control Officer within the Building Control team. Building Control is an integral part of the City’s regulatory service, covering complex commercial developments, multi-faceted city centre schemes and a variety of residential applications, including current proposals such as the Riverside Sunderland masterplan, the South Sunderland Growth Area, the International Advanced Manufacturing Park and the Electric Vehicle Hub, EV36Zero. The Building Control portfolio also extends to football stadia, large events, and high-profile concerts. The team supports the delivery of a healthy, safe and successful built environment while meeting the regulatory requirements of the Building Safety Regulator. With a strong management team, you will contribute to achieving the objectives of the City Plan and help create a connected, international city with opportunities for all.

Responsibilities

  • You will balance a full workload and work independently on a range of building regulation submissions while providing competent support to the whole team.
  • Responsibilities include applying the Building Regulations, interpreting plans and construction specifications, plan assessment, and dealing with dangerous structures and related legislation and processes.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Essential: good experience/knowledge in applying the Building Regulations, interpreting plans/construction specifications, plan assessment, dangerous structures/associated legislation, and dealing with all aspects of building work submitted to a city-based building control team.
  • You will also work with available training resources to develop competency, under supervision and mentoring as you progress.
