Project Officer (Community Safety)

Sunderland City Council is launching a new Community Safety Team as part of our bold vision for safer, stronger, and more resilient neighbourhoods. We are looking for a highly organised and proactive Project Officer to join the Community Safety Strategy Team. This role is essential in supporting the delivery of the city’s Community Safety Plan and the work of the Safer Sunderland Partnership. You will assist in coordinating multi-agency projects, managing communications, and supporting locality hubs to ensure effective partnership working. The role also involves analysing data to inform decision-making, preparing reports, and engaging with communities to promote safety and resilience. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with strong administrative, analytical, and communication skills who is passionate about making a difference in local communities.

As a Community Safety Project Officer, you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of Sunderland’s Community Safety Plan and associated partnership action plans. Working as part of a fast-paced and proactive strategy team, your work will help ensure the smooth coordination of multi-agency initiatives that address community safety priorities across the city.

You will:

• Assist with multi-agency reviews, including ASB Case Reviews, Domestic Homicide Reviews, and Offensive Weapon Homicide Reviews
• Analyse and interpret data to support intelligence-led decision-making
• Maintain and update community safety content on the Council’s website and social media platforms
• Prepare reports, briefings, and formal documentation for internal and external use
• Support the planning and delivery of public engagement events, community safety campaigns, and training sessions
• Provide administrative and operational support to the Community Safety Team and Safer Sunderland Partnership
• Help manage external funding returns, record keeping, and the tracking of performance metrics

You will ideally have:

• A relevant qualification or equivalent experience in public service, community safety, project coordination, or a related field
• Experience supporting multi-agency initiatives or delivering operational support within a public sector setting
• Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise effectively to meet deadlines
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare professional reports, correspondence, and briefings
• Confident use of digital platforms and tools to manage data, update online content, and support communication campaigns
• A methodical and analytical approach to problem-solving, with the ability to interpret and present data clearly
• The ability to work with sensitivity and professionalism when dealing with confidential matters or community concerns
• A strong commitment to equality, inclusion, and engaging positively with diverse communities and stakeholders
