The Community Therapy Service at Sunderland City Council is a thriving provider of a range of rehabilitation-based services across the city. The Community Rehabilitation Team is an integral part of the service and has an exciting opportunity for a Physiotherapist to join the team.

The Community Rehabilitation Team delivers rehabilitation to customers living in their own home in the community or engaging in an intermediate care journey. The team consists of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Rehabilitation Therapy Assistants and works in collaboration and partnership with a range of health, social care and voluntary sector providers via a multidisciplinary approach.

The Community Rehabilitation Team are a dynamic, supportive, and responsive team with a primary objective of supporting residents in the management of their disability or long-term health condition, enabling people to lead fulfilling, safe and independent lives.

Physiotherapists play a key role in the service, completing functional assessments and working with people to co-produce and implement person centred, rehabilitation therapy goal plans. Supervision will be provided by a Therapy Team Manager or Senior Practitioner in the Community Rehabilitation Service.

Candidates should have the ability to provide safe and effective Physiotherapy assessment and intervention. They should also be able to work collaboratively and have effective communication and listening skills including skills to produce good quality reports.

Essential requirements are a diploma/degree in Physiotherapy & current registration with the Health & Care Professions Council. The service strives to maintain high standards of customer care and works with its practitioners to assure continuous professional development, demonstrating best practice and a high commitment to the undergraduate education of Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy students.

Therapies work Monday to Friday, and the council offer flexible working patterns, including a combination of office based and home working. Annual Leave starts at 26 days (pro rata), rising to 31 days after 5 years’ service. There is the option to maintain NHS pension, with contributions from the council for applicants, provided conditions are met.

This post is exempt from the rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore will be subject to a DBS check from the Disclosure and Barring Service. The new Government Regulations, that require all persons working in or entering Care Quality Commission (CQC) regulated care homes to be fully vaccinated, apply to this role.
