Sunderland City Council is committed to ending rough sleeping and supporting some of the most vulnerable people in our community. We are looking for an experienced, passionate, and proactive Rough Sleeping Coordinator to join our Housing Options Team and lead the development of a coordinated, city-wide response. This is a key role where you will shape strategy, influence partnerships, and directly support the delivery of services that help people move off the streets and into sustainable accommodation.

As Rough Sleeping Coordinator, you will take both a strategic and operational lead in tackling rough sleeping across Sunderland. You will develop and deliver targeted interventions, coordinate accommodation projects, manage case flow, and ensure individuals experiencing rough sleeping are supported into appropriate accommodation and services. You will work closely with partner agencies, including health, criminal justice, and voluntary sector organisations, strengthening pathways—for example those leaving hospital or prison—to prevent rough sleeping and promote long-term stability. The role also involves analysing data, monitoring outcomes, and reporting on performance to help shape future services and funding opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate rough sleeping interventions across Sunderland
  • Work in partnership with various stakeholders to deliver a joined-up approach
  • Ensure rough sleepers are identified, engaged, and supported into accommodation and services
  • Develop and maintain effective referral pathways
  • Monitor project performance and outcomes, using data to inform service improvements
  • Manage and report on government-funded programmes and requirements

This role offers the chance to play a leading role in ending rough sleeping in Sunderland, within a supportive and forward-thinking service. You'll have the opportunity to shape services, make a real impact, and work closely with a wide range of partners.

Qualifications

You should possess a good understanding of relevant legislation with proven success in obtaining accommodation for individuals. You will have strong communication skills, be able to analyse data and manage priorities effectively, and bring empathy, resilience, and a person-centred approach. You will work well independently and with others, with the confidence to influence and drive change. You should have a strong background in homelessness or related services and a genuine commitment to improving outcomes for vulnerable people.
