Sunderland City Council is recruiting two highly motivated and experienced Council Tax and Business Rates Operations Managers to support the delivery of the Council’s Revenues section.
Responsibilities
- Provide sound and robust leadership and management of the Council Tax Recovery, Business Rates, Reviews and Enforcement Teams.
- Deliver specialist technical advice and guidance to the Council, ensuring integrated working practices across all service areas to improve service delivery.
- Continuously develop and review service delivery plans and allocate resources to deliver key objectives, with a commitment to service excellence, continuous improvement, value for money and technology use within budgetary constraints.
- Ensure effective and efficient administration of all discounts and exemptions in Council Tax and Business Rates, and identify business‑critical events such as annual billing runs and debt recovery timetables.
- Deputise for the Revenues Manager as required.
- Engage a busy and vibrant team handling both internal and external customers, requiring excellent interpersonal communication, literacy, numeracy and customer service skills.
Qualifications
- Formal professional management qualification relevant to Council Tax and Business Rates, or significant relevant experience.
- Proven track record at senior‑level management and an in‑depth understanding of the challenges facing Council Tax and Business Rates.
- Demonstrated continued professional development.
- Commitment to fairness, equality and diversity in employment and service delivery.
- Confidence in managing people and navigating challenging conversations and situations.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore will be subject to a DBS check from the Disclosure and Barring Service.
