The Major Events and Matchday Activities Team are the dedicated team behind the scenes, orchestrating electrifying matchday experiences, lively fan zones, and flagship events that unite our community. The Opportunity
The role involves planning and implementing long‑term strategies to continually enhance the home matchday experience for supporters across multiple areas, including Premium Experience, Fanzones, public catering, and overall matchday engagement. You will play a key part in shaping how fans experience Sunderland AFC, drawing inspiration from industry best practices by visiting competitor stadiums and researching innovative approaches that could be introduced at the Stadium of Light.
Working closely with the Processing and Fulfilment team, you will ensure that all relevant information is effectively shared with key stakeholders. You will handle customer queries and issues in a professional and efficient manner, while also ensuring that all matchday processes and procedures are followed correctly and that the procedure documents remain accurate and up to date.
A key aspect of the role includes coordinating and supervising the team of matchday hosts, overseeing scheduling, communication, pre‑match briefings, and post‑match feedback. You will also take responsibility for escorting the Man of the Match player from the changing room to their suite presentations, and for managing the coordination of child mascots, flag bearers, and stadium tours in collaboration with the Tours Coordinator.
You will take ownership of concourse entertainment, including live performers and club mascots Samson and Delilah, ensuring a lively and engaging atmosphere throughout matchdays. The role also involves leading and coordinating complaints handling and resolution for matchday events, ensuring all feedback contributes to continuous improvement.
Collaboration will be central to your success, you will work with the Marketing team to deliver engaging matchday visuals such as LED displays, posters, and advertising. You will also liaise with Sunderland City Council, Sunderland BID, and nearby venues within Sheepfolds to develop strategies that enhance the overall supporter experience. In partnership with the Safeguarding team, you will ensure that all matchday activities comply with Premier League Safeguarding regulations, particularly those involving mascots and flag bearers.
Finally, you will provide support for the Processing and Fulfilment role during periods of annual leave and assist the Major Events team with the processing and fulfilment of concert and major event requirements when needed.
What We Ask For
- The successful candidate will be required to work all home fixtures and major events at the Stadium of Light.
- Use of the club’s ticketing software, SeatGeek, to assist in the effective management of Premium Experience packages.
- This position requires excellent organisational skills, strong communication abilities, and a commitment to delivering outstanding customer experiences.
- An Enhanced DBS from Sunderland AFC is required.
