The Opportunity
The Scouting Department is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Scouting Analyst Intern to support its recruitment processes, offering a valuable opportunity to be directly involved in the identification, evaluation, and monitoring of players across a range of competitions and age groups. Working closely with the scouting team, the intern will contribute to the club’s identification strategy by delivering structured analysis, maintaining up-to-date player databases, and supporting ongoing departmental projects.
Responsibilities include:
- Producing individual and collective scouting reports on professional and youth matches.
- Conducting video scouting and monitoring selected leagues and age categories to identify players aligned with the club’s recruitment strategy.
- Maintaining and regularly updating player tracking lists based on scouting observations.
- Performing individual player video analysis using Sportscode to enrich the department’s video database.
- Supporting the team with live scouting assignments when required.
- Contributing to both ongoing and new scouting-related projects within the department.
What We Ask For
The ideal candidate demonstrates a strong interest in football scouting and recruitment processes, alongside the ability to produce clear, structured, and objective written reports. A solid understanding of game principles and player evaluation frameworks, comfortable working with video analysis tools, and experience in Sportscode and iMovie are considered advantages. They should bring a proactive mindset and be capable of working both independently and collaboratively within a team environment. Skills in Python and/or a background in data analysis are viewed as a strong advantage, while an understanding of the goalkeeper position would be an additional benefit for the role. An Enhanced DBS from Sunderland AFC is required.
