People Manager in Glasgow

People Manager in Glasgow

Glasgow Full-Time No working from home possible
Sunblink

Glasgow, hybrid with 3 days per week in the office

Company & role

This role sits with a growing technology services provider that delivers complex projects for enterprise customers. The business has scaled steadily and is now entering another phase of growth, which is why they are investing properly in a dedicated in house People function.

The workforce is a mix of technical consultants, engineers and delivery professionals. It is a skilled and engaged group who take pride in the work they do and the culture they have built, and the business wants a People Manager who can help protect and evolve that as they scale.

This is a standalone role reporting directly to the COO. You will own the People function end to end, acting as the sole HR presence within the business and covering everything from employee relations and recruitment through to workforce planning, engagement and culture.

It is a real chance to shape how People looks as the business scales, rather than inheriting a fully built machine or picking up someone else\'s problem.

Why This Role Stands Out

  • True end to end ownership. You run the People function, not a slice of it
  • Direct line to the COO and a genuine seat at the table with senior leadership
  • Real autonomy to shape frameworks, policies and ways of working during a growth phase
  • Supporting a skilled and engaged workforce where people already care about culture and development
  • The variety of a standalone role. Strategic one day, operational the next, always visible
  • A business that already takes people seriously, so no fighting to justify the value of the function

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the People function end to end for the UK business, reporting into the COO
  • Lead on employee relations, including disciplinary, grievance, capability, absence and performance matters
  • Partner with hiring managers on recruitment, agency relationships, onboarding and employer brand
  • Support managers with performance reviews, development planning and building a high performance culture
  • Identify training and development needs and coordinate learning activity across the business
  • Run HR operations including systems, records, reporting, payroll with Finance and GDPR compliance
  • Develop and maintain HR policies and procedures, supporting ISO and external audit requirements
  • Lead employee engagement, wellbeing, reward and recognition initiatives
  • Own workforce planning and support the ongoing development of career and capability frameworks
  • Coach managers and act as a trusted advisor to the Senior Leadership Team

Ideal Experience

  • Previous experience as a People or HR Manager, or a Senior HR Advisor ready to step into a standalone role
  • Strong working knowledge of UK employment law and confidence applying it commercially
  • Proven experience managing the full range of employee relations cases
  • Track record developing and maintaining HR policies and procedures
  • Confident using HR information systems and reporting tools
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management and problem solving skills
  • Comfortable operating independently while working closely with senior leaders
  • Sound judgement when handling confidential and sensitive matters
  • Ideally you be qualified to CIPD Level 5, or actively working towards it
  • Background in professional services, consultancy or project based delivery where workforce planning and utilisation matter commercially
  • Experience leading employee engagement initiatives
  • Knowledge of GDPR and information security best practice
  • Experience supporting change management during periods of growth
