The business specialises in the design and delivery of innovative construction solutions, combining traditional structural steelwork with other engineered building systems. Working across a range of technically interesting projects, the company offers a comprehensive service from design and manufacture through to delivery and installation.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded Quantity Surveyor who understands the subcontracting environment and is confident managing the commercial relationship between subcontractors and main contractors.

The Role

You will take responsibility for the commercial management of projects, working closely with internal teams, clients, suppliers and main contractors to ensure projects are delivered commercially and contractually successfully. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing and negotiating subcontract agreements and main contract terms.
  • Managing applications for payment, valuations, variations and change control.
  • Preparing and submitting interim valuations and final accounts.
  • Identifying, pricing and negotiating variations and additional works.
  • Managing contractual notices, commercial risks and entitlements.
  • Working closely with project managers, estimators and operational teams.
  • Managing costs, budgets, forecasts and project profitability.
  • Building strong working relationships with main contractors and clients.
  • Ensuring contractual obligations are understood, managed and protected from a subcontractor perspective.

About You

We are keen to speak with Quantity Surveyors who have experience working within a subcontracting environment, ideally within:

  • Structural steelwork or steel frame construction.
  • Specialist construction subcontractors, RC Frame, Cladding, Facades, Roofing for example.
  • Architectural metalwork or associated construction disciplines.
  • Other specialist engineering or building subcontracting sectors.

You will need to understand how to commercially manage projects as a subcontractor, particularly when dealing with main contractors. This is not simply a cost-management role. We are looking for someone who understands subcontract agreements, applications, variations, contractual negotiations and the importance of protecting the commercial interests of the business. You will be commercially astute, organised, confident in your negotiations and comfortable taking ownership of your projects.
