The Senior Business Consultant plays a key role within Group Disability (GD) Shared Services, driving operational efficiency, value creation, and continuous improvement. This position has primary accountability for oversight of the Group Disability medical consultant program and provides strategic and operational support to Claim Services leadership through analytics, process improvement, quality oversight, and cross-functional initiatives focused on enhancing the client experience.
What will you do?
- Medical Consultant Program Oversight
- Lead the Medical Consultants team, including hiring, onboarding, and training
- Ensure compliance with Medical Enterprise Operating Guidelines (MEOG)
- Act as the primary point of contact for day-to-day medical consultant activities
- Manage the annual budget, contractual compliance, and cost-per-review metrics
- Review medical opinion referrals for appropriateness and coach stakeholders as needed
- Partner with Referral Management and Supplier Relationship Management to align service delivery
- Complete annual Medical Consultant Quality Program (MCQP) reporting and maintain required compliance documentation
- Maintain program documentation, standards, and practices
- Process Improvement & Innovation
- Identify and assess opportunities for process improvement, automation, and innovation
- Recommend strategic improvements to Claim Services leadership
- Design, implement, and maintain efficient, consistent processes across multiple platforms (SharePoint, wiki, e-learning, job aids, Wrike)
- Develop and deliver training and workshops to support change adoption
- Monitor industry and market trends and apply insights to business processes
- Quality, Performance & Governance
- Provide quality assurance and control support, including outsourced services
- Develop, track, and report performance and productivity metrics
- Identify organizational gaps and recommend solutions
- Project Leadership & Collaboration
- Support and maintain the Performance Standard Agreement (PSA) Quality Program
- Lead Shared Services initiatives from concept through delivery
- Represent GD Shared Services on cross-functional projects and initiatives
- Facilitate forums to share best practices with internal and external partners
- Prioritize initiatives based on business needs and ensure timely implementation
- Provide regular status updates to leadership
What do you need to succeed?
- Experience & Knowledge
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in disability case management
- Strong knowledge of Group Benefits products, services, and systems
- Proven project management experience
- Experience working with internal and external business partners
- Solid understanding of operational and infrastructure processes
- Bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only for the frequent interactions with English and French-speaking colleagues or internal partners across Canada or worldwide.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans.
