This is a senior technical accounting role with real strategic influence — not a policy maintenance job. You'll help shape how SumUp's financial statements are structured and how complex IFRS standards are applied across a business that spans payments, banking, lending, and other products across 37 markets and 10 legal entities. You'll bring the technical accounting perspective that helps SumUp make sound business decisions and accurate reporting judgements — from new IFRS standards adoption to how we treat internally developed products on the balance sheet. The role requires someone who loves deep research and knows how to distill it into a clear conclusion. You'll be part of the Global Finance team, working closely with the Group Reporting and Controlling teams, together shaping how SumUp reports its financials to leadership, auditors, and investors. This is an individual contributor role with significant cross-functional influence.

What you'll do:

  • Lead the adoption and application of new and evolving IFRS standards, assessing their impact on SumUp's P&L and financial position.
  • Research complex accounting questions and translate them into clear, well-supported technical positions.
  • Review significant transactions and contracts for accounting implications, working alongside Legal, FP&A, Tax, and Accounting.
  • Own and evolve the Accounting Manual, turning principle-based standards into practical, accessible guidance for finance teams across the business.
  • Act as the trusted escalation point for technical accounting questions across the organization, supporting and upskilling finance teams as the business grows.

What you'll bring:

  • Deep IFRS expertise with experience applying principle-based standards to complex, non-routine transactions.
  • A genuine love of research — curious, thorough, and always asking the right questions before reaching a conclusion.
  • The ability to interpret complex accounting standards and communicate what they mean for the business in simple terms.
  • Ideally, a professional qualification — ACCA, ACA or CPA — and a Master's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Background in Big 4 audit or a large or listed company accounting function, with exposure to complex group structures.

Why you should join SumUp:

  • Opportunity to work with a truly global, multicultural team from our central London Bridge location, wrapped in historic charm and modern flair. This involves an office-first setup.
  • Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion: be part of a workplace that values and promotes diversity, fostering an inclusive environment where everyone's perspectives are respected and embraced.
  • Enrolment onto our Virtual Stock Option programme: you will own a stake in SumUp's future success.
  • Generous time off: enjoy 28 days of paid leave, plus bank holidays and special leaves.
  • A dedicated annual L&D budget for attending conferences and/or advancing your career through further education.
  • Health matters: private health insurance, including optical and dental.
  • Life made easier: salary-sacrifice commuter benefits via Gogeta.
  • Financial security: retirement scheme (SumUp matches 7% when you contribute 5%).
  • Peace of mind: life insurance from MetLife for 2× your salary.
  • Break4me: 1-month sabbatical after 3 years of service.
  • Referral Bonus: earn additional rewards by referring talented individuals to join the SumUp team.
