About the team

SumUp's Tax function sits at the heart of a business across more than 35 entities, meaning cash tax is now a material line item that the CFO, finance leadership, and investors need to forecast, manage, and explain with precision. The Tax team is responsible for corporate income tax and transfer pricing compliance across the group, and is now building the infrastructure to match the scale and scrutiny that comes with that responsibility. This is a build role. As Tax Process and Operations Lead, you'll own the design and implementation of SumUp's tax accounting and financial reporting framework from the ground up, creating the methodology, models, controls, and tooling that underpin how tax positions flow into financial statements, management reporting, and cash forecasting. You’ll lead the end-to-end design of how tax technical positions are translated into financial reporting, management reporting, and cash forecasting outputs — partnering closely with Tax, Accounting, Controlling, FP&A, and Treasury to define the processes, controls, data flows, and automation requirements that make this scalable across the group. If you're energised by building something that genuinely matters, and doing it in a live, deadline-driven environment — this role is for you.

What you'll do

  • Design and implement the end-to-end framework for tax accounting and financial reporting, including ETR calculation, tax provision methodology, cash tax forecasting, and Pillar 2 / GloBE entity-level calculations.
  • Act as the primary bridge between the Tax team's technical positions and the wider finance organisation, ensuring methodology is clearly documented, understood, and consistently applied.
  • Work closely with Tax Technology and SAP specialists to build structured, automated data pipelines that replace manual processes, using tools such as SAC, Alteryx, and AI-supported workflows.
  • Support the controlling team in reviewing tax notes in financial statements, uncertain tax position memos, and tax provisions, ensuring outputs are accurate, auditable, and delivered on time.
  • Establish and maintain model governance: version control, change logs, audit trails, and a 4-eyes review process that meets pre-IPO and statutory audit standards.

You'll be great for this role if…

  • Demonstrated hands-on experience producing tax provisions under IAS 12 across multiple entities in a multinational environment, with strong working knowledge of deferred tax accounting, ETR calculation, and uncertain tax position measurement.
  • Strong accounting background with the ability to read, challenge, and reconcile financial statements at entity level, combined with experience in transfer pricing operational execution.
  • Working knowledge of Pillar 2 / GloBE sufficient to implement entity-level calculations against a Tax-provided methodology.
  • Experience building and governing financial models in a planning tool (such as SAC or similar), with advanced Excel skills including Power Query and Data Tables.
  • Comfort working across functional boundaries — able to translate complex calculation outputs clearly for non-technical audiences including CFO, FP&A, and auditors.
  • Strong ERP experience, preferably SAP, and fluency in written and spoken English.
