SumUp is building a consumer financial product with a distribution advantage that almost no other fintech can replicate. More than four million merchants use SumUp, and more than a billion consumers come into contact with our products each year. We now have the opportunity to turn that reach into one of the world’s largest consumer financial ecosystems. Our consumer product is already live across six European markets. The next challenge is to grow it from an emerging proposition into a product used by millions of consumers and this role will lead that journey.
As Head of Consumer Growth, you will own the go-to-market strategy, commercial growth plan and acquisition engine for SumUp’s consumer product. You will build the consumer growth function from its current early stage, bringing together performance marketing, direct-to-consumer acquisition, merchant-led distribution, CRM, creative and content. You will combine proven consumer growth channels with an opportunity unique to SumUp: turning our merchant network and consumer touchpoints into a powerful new route to market. From paid acquisition, referrals and lifecycle marketing to receipts, payment screens, merchant communications and in-store experiences, you will determine how SumUp reaches, converts and retains millions of consumers.
Our ambition goes beyond building another successful consumer finance product. By connecting consumers and merchants within the same ecosystem, we can change the economics of payments. The more consumers who choose to pay with SumUp, the closer we move towards our long-term ambition of eliminating transaction fees for businesses around the world.
What you’ll do
- Own the go-to-market strategy and growth plan for SumUp’s consumer product across six European markets.
- Build and lead a multidisciplinary consumer growth team spanning performance marketing, merchant-led acquisition, direct-to-consumer marketing, CRM, design and content.
- Develop a balanced acquisition model that combines proven consumer growth channels with SumUp’s unique merchant network and consumer touchpoints.
- Take commercial ownership of growth investment, including channel mix, acquisition cost, incentives, promotions, attribution and forecasting.
- Establish a rigorous test-and-learn programme, turning successful experiments into repeatable playbooks that can scale across markets.
- Own the consumer GTM roadmap, ensuring product launches, propositions and campaigns are coordinated across channels and markets.
- Partner closely with Product, Brand, Communications and SumUp’s wider GTM organisation to sharpen the proposition, improve conversion and activate relevant channels across the business.
- Represent consumer growth in leadership discussions, bringing clarity to performance, investment decisions and the trade-offs required to scale.
You’ll be great for this role if you have
- A strong track record of leading full-funnel growth for a consumer fintech, neobank, financial services product or high-growth consumer app.
- Experience scaling a consumer proposition across multiple markets and through a comparable stage of growth.
- Deep expertise in acquisition strategy, channel mix, attribution, customer acquisition cost, lifecycle growth and unit economics.
- Experience building and leading multidisciplinary growth teams while remaining comfortable operating hands-on.
- Strong commercial judgement and a track record of making effective investment decisions under uncertainty.
- The ability to work across Product, Brand, Analytics, Communications and local market teams within a complex organisation.
- A rigorous experimentation mindset and the ability to operate quickly and pragmatically in an early-stage environment.
- Familiarity with financial services marketing regulations and the judgement to work within them without losing creativity or pace.
This is an opportunity to build more than a marketing team. You will create the growth model for a consumer financial product with the potential to operate at global scale, turn one of the world’s largest merchant networks into a powerful distribution channel, and help SumUp build a new payments ecosystem that works better for consumers and businesses around the world.
