About the team

SumUp's Finance Tax team sits at the heart of a fast-growing global fintech, managing direct tax and transfer pricing obligations across more than 35 entities. As International Tax Lead, you'll be the dedicated owner of SumUp's cross-border tax perimeter, a domain that spans permanent establishment monitoring, Pillar 2 / GloBE, double tax treaty application, EU Directives, and public Country-by-Country Reporting. This is a rare opportunity to build and own a critical international tax function from the ground up, at a company navigating significant regulatory complexity and an ambitious growth trajectory.

What you'll do

  • Own SumUp's permanent establishment monitoring framework, maintaining a live risk register across all relevant jurisdictions, assessing exposure, and managing registration and filing obligations where a PE is confirmed or probable.
  • Lead the technical application of Double Tax Treaties, the Multilateral Instrument, and EU Directives (Parent-Subsidiary, Interest & Royalties, ATADs, Mergers, and the EU Minimum Tax Directive) — advising internal teams and documenting positions to support audit defence.
  • Act as the technical authority on Pillar 2 / GloBE — certifying entity-level GloBE income and adjusted covered tax calculations, monitoring QDMTT obligations, advising on Safe Harbour eligibility, and coordinating data inputs with Accounting and Controlling.
  • Own the design and content of SumUp's Public CbCR disclosure — ensuring accuracy, internal consistency, and strategic consideration as the EU Directive rolls out across member states.
  • Co‑own transfer pricing strategy and benchmarking methodology alongside the Global Head of Tax and the Senior EU Tax Manager, acting as technical reviewer on complex TP positions.
  • Serve as the primary cross‑border tax reference point for internal stakeholders across Legal, Treasury, Finance, and Product, and manage relationships with specialist international tax advisors.

You’ll be great for this role if…

  • Proven experience in international tax in a multinational environment, with a background spanning both advisory (Big 4 or specialist boutique) and in‑house roles.
  • Strong technical knowledge of PE monitoring, OECD Model Convention, DTT networks, MLI positions, and EU Directives including ATADs.
  • Hands‑on understanding of Pillar 2 / GloBE rules — including income calculations, covered tax calculations, QDMTT, and Safe Harbour analysis.
  • Ability to read, challenge, and discuss financial statements independently, with a solid accounting foundation and familiarity with the interaction between management and statutory accounts.
  • Comfort working across multiple jurisdictions simultaneously, with the project management discipline to build frameworks while keeping live compliance obligations on track.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English, with an ACCA or equivalent professional qualification.
