Team Description
You’ll join our UK Compliance team. Together, we make sure SumUp operates safely, ethically, and in line with regulatory expectations across Europe. In this role, you’ll take the lead on compliance reviews and thematic testing across UK and EU regulatory areas such as PSD2/PSD3, Consumer Duty, and AML/CFT obligations. You’ll dive deep into emerging regulation, perform gap analyses, and turn findings into practical, actionable improvements that strengthen our compliance culture.
You’ll work closely with stakeholders across Product, Operations, and Risk, building strong partnerships to embed regulatory insight early in our decision-making. From shaping policy updates to contributing to quarterly compliance reporting your work will directly influence how SumUp maintains trust and meets its obligations as we grow across Europe. As part of a collaborative, experienced team, you’ll play a key role in evolving our compliance framework, ensuring it remains proportionate, scalable, and future-ready all while helping create a fintech environment where doing the right thing is everyone’s business.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and execute thematic compliance reviews across UK and EU regulatory requirements.
- Perform compliance testing and sampling, from planning and scoping to execution, documentation, and reporting.
- Analyse findings, prepare practical remediation plans, and work cross-functionally to track delivery.
- Prepare and contribute to quarterly compliance reports with insights, trends, and root-cause analysis to management and the Board.
- Maintain and enhance the regulatory horizon scanning register, ensuring new regulations are captured and assessed.
- Conduct gap analyses against guidance issued by the FCA, CBI, and other European authorities.
- Support policy and procedure updates, ensuring documentation remains current and proportionate.
- Provide QA and oversight on regulatory reporting submissions.
- Partner with Product and Operations teams to enable new feature launches and market expansions in the UK and EU.
- Be a trusted compliance advisor, providing clear, pragmatic, and solutions-oriented advice.
- Provide support to the Head of Compliance in liaising with the regulators and auditors.
You’ll Be Great for This Role If
- You have a strong background in compliance, risk, or regulatory roles.
- You’ve delivered compliance monitoring or thematic reviews and can operate independently.
- You understand UK and/or EU financial services regulation.
- You’re an analytical thinker with strong judgment and attention to detail.
- You’re confident in communicating complex topics clearly.
- You build strong relationships and can challenge the business constructively.
- You’re proactive, pragmatic, and commercially aware.
