Sumner School and Lyttelton School are excited to offer a unique, collaborative teaching opportunity across our two kura within the Aupaki KÄhui Ako. Together, we are seeking a passionate and skilled kaiako to take on a Ministry of Education-funded role focused on accelerating mathematics learning. Individually, each kura has received funding to support this work. By combining our MOE resourcing, we aim to attract an exceptional teacher who is excited by the opportunity to work across two vibrant school communities, making a meaningful difference for Äkonga.
The successful applicant will work as a Maths Acceleration Teacher (MAT), supporting Äkonga across Years 3â8. This role involves delivering targeted maths intervention programmes to small groups (approximately 6 Äkonga), with sessions running for 30 minutes, four times per week, in addition to regular classroom maths lessons. The aim is to accelerate progress by strengthening key foundational maths skills.
This role is supported by a comprehensive, Ministry-funded professional learning programme designed to build your expertise in maths acceleration. You will be part of a national network of Maths Acceleration Teachers (MATs) and will engage in:
- Online Communities of Practice
- Webinars for MATs and classroom teachers
