We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Duty Controller based at Luton. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will manage and monitor the efficient allocation and distribution of driving duties in the Traffic Office on a day-to-day basis.
Luton working hours: 12 hour shifts, 4 on and 4 off.
What you'll do…
- Ensure all drivers are safe and fit to be at work at all times.
- Effective oversight of driver performance, and continuously ensuring effective management of drivers and their performance is being applied.
- Communicate with Engineers, Management, Drivers and external Services such as the Police, Fire Brigade and Ambulance Services.
- Monitor the efficiency of services operated and ensure that appropriate action is taken to rectify any problems.
- Manage the dispatch and return of service.
- Manage the on-the-day allocation of work to drivers ensuring the efficient application of Company guidelines.
- Ensure Company and legislative regulations are adhered to in respect of the service operation.
- Operate and update the Depot Operations System.
- Prepare and manage the Vehicle Defect Forms for the next day.
- Monitor the Control phone to deal with any issues that arise during service.
- Monitor and record drivers' overtime, absence and sickness.
- Receive and take appropriate action in respect of customer complaints, lost property along with providing customers with information about the Company range of services and products.
- Be able to record, monitor and manage any training issues that you may feel is required for a driver, by communicating with the Training Department on a daily/weekly basis.
- Operate and maintain computer and paperwork systems in respect of ensuring accurate input and output of data to defined timescales.
- Maintain statistics and provide specific reports and ad-hoc business monitoring reports in accordance with agreed timescales.
- Undertake driving duties, as and when required if applicable.
- Demonstrate flexibility in line with operational requirements.
- Document any predictable and unpredictable delays in service and set emergency diversions as required.
- Log all communications with all external bodies in relation to service reliability/disruption.
- Duties and Responsibilities vary from time to time to meet operational requirements.
What you'll need…
- Experience in EU & Domestic Hours, plus competence in relevant systems - DAS, EP Morris, Origin etc.
- PCV Licence.
- Previous Controller experience desirable.
- First Aid, and Fire Warden training would be advantageous, but not required.
- Working knowledge of the bus and highway network in the relevant geographical area.
- Ability to work under pressure, problem-solving skills and flexibility with hours of work.
