We’re looking for an experienced Engineering Controller in Birmingham to support the Head of Engineering in leading and coordinating engineering activity across multiple depots. You’ll play a key role in ensuring our fleet is safe, reliable and available — delivering a high‑quality service that meets operational, contractual and commercial targets. This is a hands‑on role ideal for someone who thrives in a fast‑paced, regulated engineering environment.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Monitoring engineering performance and KPIs across all sites, driving continuous improvement.
  • Supporting depot teams through clear communication, problem‑solving sessions and performance reviews.
  • Ensuring maintenance is effectively planned and aligned with available labour, parts, tooling and pit space.
  • Overseeing the use of Maximo to ensure accurate work order management.
  • Managing local budgets, controlling costs and identifying efficiency opportunities.
  • Working collaboratively to ensure Peak Vehicle Requirement (PVR) is consistently achieved.
  • Building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Acting as a role model for safety, professionalism and high standards.
  • Travelling regularly between sites and supporting operational needs, including out‑of‑hour.

What We’re Looking For

  • Engineering workshop experience (heavy‑goods environment preferred).
  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety in an engineering setting.
  • Experience working in a regulated environment.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
  • Strong IT skills and confidence using engineering systems.
  • Flexible approach to working hours and travel.
  • Spanish language skills are a bonus but not essential.
