Company Overview
Summit Hygiene is a leading provider of professional cleaning & hygiene solutions, helping businesses maintain clean, safe, and compliant environments. We work across multiple sectors and pride ourselves on quality service, strong relationships, and consistent growth.
Role Overview
This is a pure new-business role. You open accounts, hand them over to Account Management once they are trading, and move on to the next one. There is no account book. You will not inherit customers to keep warm, and you will not be asked to grow them.
A dedicated Business Development Executive books your appointments, so your time goes on presenting rather than prospecting. You own each deal from presentation stage through pricing, trials, site surveys, tender or framework paperwork, account opening and first order.
Alongside that you work the territory daily to keep your own pipeline moving. This role lives or dies on the discipline of doing that without supervision.
(This role does not involve managing or growing existing accounts — you will not be given a book to farm, and everything you win is handed over once it is trading.)
Key Responsibilities
- Convert BDE-booked appointments into presentations, trials, surveys and trading accounts.
- Self-generate appointments and opportunities alongside your BDE’s activity, including cold calls and decision-maker conversations where needed.
- Complete daily drop-ins and canvassing across your territory.
- Take ownership of the deal from presentation through pricing, tender or framework requirements, product trials and site surveys, to account opening and first order.
- Deliver a professional, consultative presentation of the Summit Hygiene range and service proposition, tailored to the site in front of you
- Understand education buying cycles, budget timings, framework agreements and MAT/central procurement routes, and plan your pipeline around them
- Hand over won accounts cleanly to Account Management, with the customer properly introduced and all commercial detail documented
- Keep the CRM accurate and current — activity, pipeline, next actions and forecast
- Feed back what you are hearing in the market on competitors, pricing and product requirements.
Key Performance Focus
- New business won
Skills & Experience
- A demonstrable track record of winning new business — accounts you personally opened, with the numbers to back it up
- Genuinely hungry for the next win, and comfortable being measured on activity as well as results
- Happy to hand won accounts to someone else and move on to the next opportunity
- Strong presentation skills and the confidence to sell to procurement, estates, facilities and bursar-level contacts
- Resilient and self-managing — this role lives or dies on the discipline of working a territory every day without supervision
- Organised enough to run a live pipeline, work with a BDE and keep a CRM straight
- Full UK driving licence
- Experience selling into education — higher education, independent schools or Multi-Academy Trusts.
- Background in hygiene, washroom, cleaning, janitorial supplies, facilities services or a comparable B2B service and consumables environment.

- Experience working with a lead generation or appointment setting function.
Personal Attributes
- Genuinely hungry for the win, and happy to move on once it’s landed.
- Resilient in the face of rejection and slow-moving procurement cycles.
- Organised and self-disciplined.
- Team player who hands over cleanly rather than holding on.

- This is a field-based, 100% new business role. You will be out on your patch every day winning accounts that have never bought from us, including drop-ins and canvassing alongside the appointments booked for you. There is no account base to farm, and once an account is trading you hand it to Account Management and move on. Is that the role you’re applying for? yes / no
- Lots of people have ‘Business Development’ in their job title but spend most of their time growing accounts they were given. In your most recent role, roughly what percentage of your revenue came from accounts you personally opened, rather than accounts you inherited or that came in through the business? number
- When did you last personally open a brand new trading account – a customer that had never bought from your company before? this month / in the last 3 months / in the last 6 months / in the last year / over a year ago
