Here at Summerwood, we are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Registered Veterinary Nurse to join our fantastic team on a part-time fixed‑term basis. This role is to cover maternity leave for a period of 12 months. This is a fantastic opportunity for a Nurse who is motivated, enthusiastic, and keen to utilise their nursing skills to the fullest. We’re committed to supporting your professional growth and encourage ongoing development and learning.
The Rota
This is a part‑time role working 24 hours per week, 3 × 8 hour shifts. The working days will be on a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday with the shifts being varied: 8:30 am‑5:00 pm, 9:00 am‑5:30 pm, 9:30 am‑6:00 pm or 10:00 am‑6:30 pm.

Summerwood is a busy, small animal practice nestled in the town of Blackwood in the South Wales valley, with a mix of entertainment options, from the cinema to gyms, shopping spots, and a lively pub scene. Nature enthusiasts will appreciate the stunning scenery and hiking opportunities in the surrounding mountains.
Our location provides easy access to Cardiff and Newport, as well as the scenic wonders of the Brecon Beacons and the picturesque Cwmcarn Drive. There are plenty of options for getting around thanks to the local bus station and nearby rail link.

Our spacious practice boasts 4 consult rooms (one is brand new), brand new cattery (top of the range kennels), separate cat and dog kennels, waiting areas, theatre and prep room.
Our practice is well‑equipped with fantastic facilities including x‑ray, dental x‑ray, dental machine, cat and dog waiting area and separate kennels, a theatre and prep area, 4 consult rooms, laparoscopic spay equipment, multi‑parameters/bp machine, ultrasound and Idexx lab equipment.
Our ideal candidate
You must be a Registered Veterinary Nurse with a proactive, can‑do attitude. Previous experience in a hospital environment is ideal, but not essential – we welcome applications from those eager to develop their skills. Full training will be provided across all areas.
