To be responsible for a high quality, cost effective safe food service, whilst supervising thesmooth and efficient running of the department. Job Summary Responsible for the preparation, production and services, plus distribution,re-generation/cooking of safe food for all patients staff and visitors. Key Communications and Working Relationships Internal: Multi-disciplinary Team, Service Users, Carers, Hotel Services Staff External: General Public Principle Duties and Responsibilities CATERING OPERATIONAL Responsible for requisitioning and maintaining adequate stock levels of food/non fooditems in the absence of the Hotel/Support Services Co-ordinator. Responsible for the correct, safe, hygienic receipt, storage and use of all food items,materials and equipment. Organising function/buffet work, including the transport and collection of food, beverages,cutlery and utensils to and from meetings, wards, dining rooms and other Units. Responsible for ensuring that agreed policy is followed in relation to the cashing up,checking and signing of dining room income, its banking and maintenance of accuraterecords as required. SUPERVISORY/MANAGEMENT To be responsible for maintaining discipline of all staff and undertake initial counsellingwhere necessary. To establish and maintain good working relationships betweenCatering staff and other departments. To be responsible for specified standards and the maintenance of quality monitoringprocedures, including inspection and completion of relevant forms. To be conversantwith Computerised systems in order to maintain up to date records and workingrelationships within the Department. Postholder is responsible for ensuring that they are fully conversant with CateringOperational Policies, Codes of Practice and Haccp Systems that exist within theHospital. (Details can be found in the Hotel/Support Services Co-ordinators Office). To provide support to the Catering Department as may be required during times ofemergency. Responsibility to attend Supervisors meetings as requested by the Hotel/SupportServices Co-ordinator. To be responsible for the authorisation of clock cards and time sheets, plus dealing withwelfare ie salary problems in conjunction with salaries and wages. Maintaining efficientStaff rotas and monitor sickness and absence records. Responsible for deputising for other supervisors when on annual leave and sickness. Responsible for carrying out First Stage sickness absence reviews under the Supervisionof the Hotel/Support Services Co-ordinator.Hotel / Support Services CoordinatorCatering Production SupervisorChef/Supervisor Responsible for dealing with minor complaints quickly and efficiently and to bring to theattention of the Hotel/Support Services Co-ordinator any matters of a more seriousnature that is likely to affect the smooth running of the department, reporting change inservice. ADDITIONAL DUTIES To assist with training requirements and personal needs of staff in conjunction with otherSupervisors and the Hotel/Support Services Co-ordinator, this will include responsibilityfor the induction of new staff and on the job training. To undertake any ad hoc duties as required by the Hotel/Support Services Co-ordinatorcommensurate with the grade of the post. Every member of staff has a responsibility to be aware of and follow at all times, therelevant national and local policy in relation to the safeguarding of children, thesafeguarding of vulnerable adults and the control of infection. HEALTH & SAFETY Responsible for ensuring that all cleaning materials are correctly stored/marked and areeasily identifiable in accordance with C.O.S.H.H regulations. Responsible for ensuring staff are made aware of Infection Control Procedures and carryout relevant training. To be responsible, and in conjunction with other Supervisory Staff, for the Health andSafety of Staff under their control and be conversant with Hotel Services Policies, CodesOf Practice, and COSHH & Fire Regulations. Responsible for ensuring Staff are adequately trained and attend all training courses andlectures, as required. To be responsible for ensuring in conjunction with other Supervisory Staff that allequipment is cleaned in accordance with agreed Departmental Schedules. Ensuring allequipment and safety guards/devices are maintained on a regular basis and to a safestandard, and protective clothing is worn. Responsible for reporting immediately all faults, defects or dangerous practices whichmay constitute a hazard to health & safety. Reporting all major breakdowns to the HotelSupport Services Co-ordinator. To ensure NO SMOKING notices are observed Responsible for ensuring staff are made aware of Infection Control Procedures and carryout relevant training. All employees have a duty to be aware of and comply with their responsibilities forresearch governance, whether as researchers, as part of the team caring for thoseparticipating in research or as research participants themselves; Control of Infection All employees whether clinical or non-clinical are required to comply with the Health and SocialCare Act 2008: Code of Practice for health and adult social care on the prevention and controlof infections and related guidance; Therefore the post-holder is expected to keep patients, visitors, themselves and otheremployees safe by continuously reducing the risk of healthcare associated infections; As a manager the post holder is required to ensure that infection control responsibilities areclearly identified, allocated and understood within your team and that appropriate resource,training and support is provided to ensure that they are compliant with SSL/Trust policies andprocedures on Infection Control and Hygiene; As a manager the post holder is required to ensure that employees are supported in attendingthe necessary training and on-going professional development to support their responsibilitiesand ensure full awareness of infection control and hygiene; Standards of Professional and Business Conduct The post-holder will be required to comply with the SSL/Trusts Standing Orders and StrandingFinancial Instructions, and at all times deal honestly with the SSL/Trust, with colleagues and allthose who have dealings with the SSL/Trust, including patients, relatives and suppliers.Data ProtectionComply with SSL/Trust Policies and the Data Protection Act in all respects, with particularrelevance to the protection and use of personal and patient information; Security Comply with SSL/Trust policies to ensure there is a safe and secure environment that protectspatients, employees and visitors and their property, and the physical assets and theinformation of the organisation; Smoking The SSL/Trust operates a No Smoking Policy; Flexibility This job description is a reflection of the current position and a summary of the key tasks andmay change in light of the developing organisation and in consultation with the post holder.
