Disclosure

Main duties of the job

To provide a high-quality Porter Driver Service, to maintain a high quality continuous Service at all times that assists in ensuring a positive service user experience and reflects the values of the organisation. To work as part of the Porter Driver team within the Hotel Services Team.

Role Purpose

To assist in providing a high quality service to patients, staff and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for performing general Portering duties on wards & around the clinic including the service of food to wards & our other site Newbridge, daily rubbish collections, clinical waste & pharmacy delivery to wards, linen & postal service.
  • ADHOC duties when required.

At SSL, we work in partnership with Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Foundation Trust (BSMHFT), to deliver facilities management, transport and other support services to over 50 sites across the West Midlands. Our team keeps expanding and since our establishment in 2012, we have grown rapidly through the acquisition of new sites and services. At SSL we take pride in our focus to support and contribute to the Trust's aim which is to help people get better and challenge the stigma associated with mental illness.

Job responsibilities

Communication

The post holder is responsible for ensuring they comply with current good practice in informing/updating all members of the multi-disciplinary team, their colleagues, service users etc. of current work in progress.

Operational/Technical Activities

  • Responsible for your own personal development and training needs, taking part in your appraisals ADR & WBTs.
  • Responsible for ensuring confidentiality is maintained at all times in accordance with the data protection act trust policy and good practice.
  • Responsible for maintaining and conducting oneself in a professional manner towards colleagues and other agencies.
  • Responsible for reading, understanding and complying with all relevant departmental/SSL/trust and statutory policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for ensuring that they contribute and work towards the service/organisational aims and objectives.
  • To undertake any ad-hoc duties as required by the senior Catering Supervisor commensurate with the grade of the post.
  • It is everyone's responsibility to be aware of infection control procedures and to carry out relevant training.

Responsible for the delivery and collection of pharmacy and controlled drugs from wards.

Responsible for the delivery of all hot and cold food dried ambient food items and hospitality requirements throughout the Unit.

Responsible for the delivery of hot and cold food on a daily basis to Trust Sites.

Responsible for the collection and delivery of clean/dirty linen throughout the Unit.

Responsible for the ordering of clean linen throughout the Unit.

Collection and transportation of rubbish from wards.

Responsible for the unloading/loading of domestic and clinical stores/confidential waste to all wards.

To assist in the removal of furniture and goods for wards and departments.

Responsible for delivery and collection/changing of oxygen/air cylinders to all wards.

Being responsible for the security and upkeep of Hospital vehicles and equipment.

Responsible for providing a Portering Service to SSL/Trust Sites.

Responsible for cleaning of litter, cigarette ends, etc. from Front Entrance and Court Yards. Also emptying of bins by Front Entrance and Courtyards.

Responsible for taking delivery of food items and ensuring safe storage of bread, milk and fresh and frozen food deliveries for the Catering Department.

Responsible for delivery of all stationery items to all Departments and Wards within the Unit.

It is everyone's responsibility to be aware of infection control procedures and to carry out relevant training.

Person Specification

Training & Qualifications

  • Literate with satisfactory level of general education GCSE/CSE Certificates.
  • Level 2 Food Safety Certificate.
  • HACCP Level.

Knowledge and experience

  • Proven experience working with the public.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety & COSHH regulations.
  • Good standard of knowledge of Microsoft software packages.
  • Good level of oral and written communications skills.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Able to work alone and part of a team.

Other

  • Able to work a flexible shift pattern which may include weekends and bank holidays.
  • Full Current & Clean UK Driving Licence.
  • Able to fulfil Physical Requirement of the Role.
