Main duties of the job
To provide a high-quality Porter Driver Service, Delivery service across all BSMHFT sites & others agreed to maintain a high quality continuous Service at all times that assists in ensuring a positive service user experience and reflects the values of the organisation.
- To work as part of Porter Driver team within Estates & Facilities.
- To be responsible for a comprehensive Porter/Driver service to all BSMHFT, SSL & others agreed including outside contracts where necessary, in order to maintain a high-quality continuous Service at all times.
- Deliver & Collect Key elements as described in responsibilities, but these may change with SSL re-organisation.

At SSL, we work in partnership with Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Foundation Trust (BSMHFT), to deliver facilities management, transport and other support services to over 50 sites across the West Midlands. Our team keeps expanding and since our establishment, in 2012, we have grown rapidly through the acquisition of new sites and services. At SSL we take pride in our focus to support and contribute to the Trust’s aim which is to help people get better and challenge the stigma associated with mental illness.

Job responsibilities
- To work effectively and efficiently within a team of other Porter Drivers, Supervisor & Transport & Logistics Coordinator to ensure the wellbeing of service users is always maintained and services provided.
- Works in line with all BSMHFT/SSL policies and procedures.
- Good level of Communication with all BSMHFT, SSL Staff, Visitors, Service users, Clients and suppliers.
- Responsible for the delivery and collection of the following key elements:
- Transportation of Service Users & or Staff
- Food Delivery
- Pharmacy
- Medical Records
- Post (Internal & External)
- Specimens
- Oxygen
- Provide a service to all sites as required.
- Required to work flexible hours within the teams and support where necessary with reasonable notice to change start and finish times.
- Will be expected to work Weekends and Bank Holidays as required.
- Supporting In House Portering, Non-Emergency Patient Transport & General Transport services across BSMFHT/ SSL Trust when required (Initial Training will be provided).
- Delivery, checking and exchanging of medical gas cylinders when required and keeping up to date records, with inclusion of the manifold bank that is changed.
- To be responsible for the delivery of all food requirements and hospitality requirements to all BSMHFT/SSL Locations.
- Responsible for the safe collection and delivery of clean/dirty linen to All BSMHFT/SSL Locations.
- Collection, safe transportation and disposal of ALL types of waste, including furniture, mattresses clinical, general, confidential, food, sharp and any other forms of waste from BSMHFT/SSL Locations, including disposal at nominated waste disposal site(s).
- Responsible for the receipt, unloading/loading of ALL types of stores/ PPE to ALL BSMHFT Locations.
- Responsible for the security and upkeep and regular cleaning of Trust vehicles and equipment. As per policy.
- Occasional requirement to respond & assist in an emergency situation.
- Potential exposure to unpleasant situations.
- Responsible to attend and complete all trust training programmes and ensure that BSMHFT/SSL statutory and mandatory training is up to date. Also, to actively take part and complete any external training.
- Follow timetables set by the service and complete all tasks effectively.
- Regular use of trust PC to complete e-learning training, and respond to trust communications, following ICT Guidelines.
- Completion of timesheets and emailing handover reports and other necessary reports to Supervisor, and other staff members when required in line with departmental guidelines.
- Support and maintaining the external delivery areas ensuring they are free from refuse and clutter reporting any maintenance issues and pest activity.
- Responsible for any ad-hoc work to be completed during a shift as requested by SSL Estates & Facilities Team.
- Departmental rotas to be adhered to at all times, but may be subject to change in line with SSL/Trust organisation changes - (Rota attached).
- Responsible for providing a Service to all BSMHFT/SSL Locations and other agreed locations.

Person Specification
Training & Qualifications
- Literate with satisfactory level of general education GCSE/CSE Certificates.
- Level 2 Food Safety Certificate HACCP Level.
Knowledge and experience
- Proven experience working with the public.
- Knowledge of Health & Safety & COSHH regulations.
- Good standard of knowledge of Microsoft software packages.
- Good level of oral and written communications skills.
- Good organisational skills.
- Able to work alone and part of a team.
Other
- Able to work a flexible shift pattern which may include weekends and bank holidays.
- Full Current & Clean UK Driving Licence.
- Able to fulfil Physical Requirement of the Role.
