Fixed Term Contracts Available between 29th June and 29th August:
- Full summer contract: 29th June – 18th July, 23rd July – 8th August, 14th August – 29th August.
- Medium term contract: 29th June – 18th July & 23rd July – 8th August.
- Short term contract: 20th July – 8th August.
The Role
Senior Houseparent (SHP) – internally referred to as Assistant Centre Manager (ACM). The SHP plays an integral role in the operational running of one of our residential centres and the safeguarding and pastoral well-being of the students.
Responsibilities
- Support the overall management of one of our Halls of Residence (UCL Garden Halls or College Halls).
- Act as lead in the absence of the Centre Manager, ensuring continuity of operations and support for staff and residents.
- Manage staff – line-manage 1 SPAL, support SPALs in managing junior staff, run daily evening meetings, attend hand-over meetings, provide ad-hoc evening social programme support.
- Safeguarding & Pastoral Support – triage sickness/ill-health, support SPALs and PALs in safeguarding, act as point of contact for students across a 24-hour provision, spend 1–3 nights per week on-call, escort students on external site visits.
- Behaviour Management – conduct dorm checks, manage student expectations against the Behaviour Matrix, conduct behaviour meetings, maintain documentation of warnings and plans.
- Administration – maintain communication with parents, update records on reporting platforms, support junior staff with reporting, perform other administrative tasks as required.
- Other – adhere to InvestIN’s safeguarding policy and Code of Conduct, undertake mandatory safeguarding training, support a positive and inclusive culture.
Qualifications & Experience
- Experienced in pastoral care for young people (e.g. schools, childcare, youth work, paediatric healthcare) – essential.
- Experience of safeguarding young people – essential.
- Experience working in fast-paced environments – essential.
- Experience leading in operationally complex settings – essential.
- Experience managing teams – desirable.
- Experience in a residential boarding setting – desirable.
- Experience with 15–18-year-olds – desirable.
- Experience supporting SEND students – desirable.
- Excellent reactive prioritisation and problem-solving skills.
- Calm, kind and supportive approach.
- Proactive, high-energy, resilient with a positive attitude.
- Strong understanding of safeguarding and able to act appropriately.
