Section 2 – Purpose of Job

  • The role of AVP exists to provide support in the execution of transactions as well as marketing activities and origination of new business.
  • The role requires strong analytical skills and corporate credit skills, involving the review and analysis of information including customer financial statements, corporate and project finance financial models, due diligence, and legal documentation.
  • The role also requires strong communication skills as there will be various interfaces both within the organisation (Credit, Syndications, Operations etc) as well as externally including some client-facing dealings involving deal execution, due diligence, and KYC.

Section 3 – Background

  • The role sits within the Power & Renewables team, reporting into a Director within the team.
  • This role provides support to VP and Director level employees running transactions, both on project and corporate analysis and administration tasks.
  • There is a customer-facing element to the role, including gathering information (KYC, Due Diligence etc) and attending customer meetings on occasion (along with more senior colleagues).
  • Internally, the role interfaces with various other departments including portfolio management and Credit, as well as colleagues in Derivatives and Debt Capital Market and with other regions.

Section 4 – Facts / Scale

  • The role has interfaces within ISD, as well as with CD, KYC, OAD, SYFI, SMBC LF, SMBC Nikko CM, other marketing departments (CBD1, CBD2, GTFD etc) and possibly other regions and head office.
  • The role requires good knowledge of project and acquisition finance theory, practice, and execution.
  • The role also requires skills and experience in performing corporate analysis.
  • Although there is not a budget specific to the role, the role is supporting the achievement of the Power & Renewables budget.
  • It would be expected that the role works on 6-12 transactions per year, generally 3-4 transactions at any given time.

Section 5 – Accountabilities & Responsibilities

  • Support senior staff as part of deal teams in the marketing, origination of, and execution of project finance and acquisition finance transactions.
  • Prepare credit applications and manage data input for GBR, EIC, and other systems.
  • Prepare externally facing marketing materials in line with the guidelines and seek compliance approval.
  • Input transactions into the Project Finance Grading Methodology (PD/LDG model).
  • As appropriate, perform financial modelling and analysis for projects in support of the transaction lead.
  • Work on asset management, distributions, and other areas of ISD as requested by the Head of Power & Renewables.
  • Manage other administrative and support functions related to the team (e.g. preparation/circulation of signing logs, KYC).
  • Understand the Bank’s internal procedures and processes and apply them correctly.

Section 6 – Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • Some knowledge and experience of project finance theory, practice, risk analysis, credit, execution, and documentation, as well as corporate financial analysis.
  • Strong numerical and financial skills essential.
  • Financial modelling experience desirable.
  • Experience of working in a large financial institution or other relevant role in industry, advisor, or finance.
  • The ability to work on multiple tasks in parallel under pressure and to time constraints with significant changes.
  • Language skills would be viewed favourably.
  • Education & Qualifications: Degree and multiple language skills would be viewed favourably.

  • Working as part of a busy team with a high workload, often with high customer expectations and tight deadlines while managing their own time with some guidance.
  • Understanding and delivering accurately and in a timely manner complex procedures and processes.
  • Balancing the needs of multiple internal systems and processes in delivering transactions.
