Section 2 – Purpose of Job

  • Accountable for the successful software delivery from inception to deployment for the complete Client Services Technology Stack including Data Warehouse, Cube and Power BI
  • Deliver key strategic business goals by identifying systems changes that support revenue generation and regulatory reporting for the Bank, focusing on database efficiency and effectiveness and quality reporting.
  • Responsible for the implementation of high priority, high value changes in close cooperation with Product Managers ensuring fast, stable, resilient and supportable systems within the approved budgetary framework.
  • Accountable for internal and external audit and their findings as well as regular engagement with the compliance team regarding their specific area.
  • Manage the team of 6+ database developers to deliver on their individual responsibilities and ensure that the business is fully supported with a global system architecture.
  • When suitable, identify and introduce best-in-class third-party software solutions and vendors to aid strategic business deliverables.
  • Endorse and promote Diversity and Inclusion opportunities across the board.

Section 3 – Background

The Client Services development team requires an agile and versatile specialist member and lead with an extensive expertise in Microsoft SQL Server, Data Warehousing and PowerBI technologies.

The role requires an experienced people manager, and an individual that is comfortable to work in close partnership with a variety of global banking stakeholders.

The head of the team will be expected to be well versed in, and keep up to date with, a multitude of new technologies.

The role requires a thorough understanding of development and architecture best practice coupled with a good working knowledge of IT General Controls.

Expertise in designing and implementing CI/CD and DevSecOps processes and ensuring that these are implemented throughout the department.

Section 4 – Facts / Scale

  • Together with the rest of the Client Services team, the role is the key delivery contributor for the business in EMEA. It is responsible for delivering sound, well designed and technically advanced solutions to our business users.
  • The role requires design and development of new software, integration with vendor systems, participating in on-call rota support and following and expanding the established SDLC processes.
  • The role is responsible for agreeing and delivering IT Strategy, assisting in revenue generating and regulatory initiatives and ensuring that SMBC IT systems provide competitive advantage.

Section 5 – Accountabilities & Responsibilities

  • Participating in an effective and efficient running of the Client Services infrastructure, servers, data flows, overnight batches, and extracts
  • Developing code on SQL Server technology stack including SSIS / SSAS / SSRS and Power BI items
  • Delivering fast-paced agile high quality software changes and solutions, participating in Scrums and Sprints and creating and deploying Releases.
  • Providing guidance and advice on SQL Server and Power BI strategic usage and upgrades, and leveraging them to maximise the business benefit.
  • Frequent SQL Server database development tasks such as SQL queries, stored procedures, indexes, table partitions, and query optimizations.
  • Promoting enterprise data management and governance design approach delivered through Agile SDLC.
  • Prepare the current tech stack for future hybrid collaboration with cloud technologies such as Azure.
  • Delivering regulatory and internal reporting in a resilient and timely manner incorporating the latest and most suitable industry and technology solutions.
  • Consider wider IT industry landscape including Big Data, ML and AI concepts and their potential usage in the business.

Section 6 – Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • Core Development Languages covering advanced SQL, Data warehousing principles and PowerBI
  • Strong numerical and financial skills with the ability to interpret financial information and able to design and use of financial models
  • Experience of trading systems is required
  • Experience and understanding of a Banking Environment, Product range and associated opportunities and risks
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated experience managing, end to end, design, definition and delivery of technical solutions in-line with strategic goals
  • Ability to handle communications at all levels from across the whole business
  • Hands-on experience with automated testing environments and CI/CD
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science
