Mesh & Material Contamination Technician
Position at SUMITOMO ELECTRIC U. K. POWER CABLES LTD. Desired start date July/August 2026.
Role Purpose
The Mesh & Material Contamination Technician ensures product quality by performing detailed microscopic inspection of screen mesh, conducting further analysis with advanced analytical techniques and precision measurement equipment, and preparing technical reports to support quality investigations.
When required, the technician will also assist with manufacturing operational activities.
This position will involve approximately one month of training at our manufacturing facility in Japan as part of the onboarding process.
- Key Accountabilities
- Conduct detailed quality inspection within a cleanroom environment, using microscopes to systematically examine mesh and accurately identify and count contaminants.
- Analyse contaminants using specialised analytical equipment, including sample preparation, test execution, and interpretation of results.
- Operate high-resolution measuring equipment to assess material characteristics.
- Prepare clear and accurate technical reports to communicate findings and support quality investigations.
- Follow all cleanroom procedures, including gowning, handling, and contamination control requirements.
- Follow all health, safety, environmental, and quality management procedures.
- Support operational activities as required.
Essential and Preferred Knowledge / Skills / Experience
- Previous experience in a manufacturing, production, quality inspection or laboratory environment.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify defects accurately.
- Computer skills, including proficiency with standard applications (e. g. Word, Powerpoint).
- Ability to read and interpret work instructions, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Good numeracy and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills.
Desirable
- Experience within the cable manufacturing, wire, or electrical industry.
- Knowledge of quality control processes and inspection techniques.
- Experience using microscopes and chemical analytical equipment.
- Understanding of ISO 9001 or similar quality management systems.
Qualifications
- GCSEs or National 5s including Maths, English & Science. A Level or higher Chemistry or Physics would be preferred.
- Relevant manufacturing or quality inspection qualifications are advantageous but not essential.
