Multi-skilled Maintenance Supervisor – April 2026. Applicants must already have the right to work in the UK. Unfortunately, we are unable to sponsor visas for this role.

Role Purpose

Highly skilled and motivated Multi-Skilled Maintenance Supervisor to join our engineering team in a state-of-the-art submarine cable manufacturing facility. This role involves supervision of a maintenance team which is responsible for looking after the proactive and reactive maintenance of a wide range of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and control systems to ensure optimal production performance in a demanding, safety-critical environment.

Key Accountabilities

  • Working as the lead of a dedicated maintenance team, playing a key role in maximising equipment uptime, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, and ensuring compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Supervisory duties; Managing staff performance and absenteeism.
  • Managing outside contractors and inspectors.
  • Schedule and oversee planned preventive maintenance (PPM) on manufacturing plant, machinery, and associated systems in accordance with standards and regulations.
  • Ensure any breakdowns are quickly and effectively handled, assist and support the troubleshooting of faults to minimise downtime.
  • Control and maintain accurate maintenance records: including the recording and tracking of breakdowns, reactive maintenance and planned maintenance ensuring that all data is captured in the computerised maintenance management system.
  • Control spare parts and ensure budget is adhered to.
  • Liaise with vendors.
  • Ensure that all health and safety systems and protocols are being followed.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical faults, including motors, gearboxes, pumps, PLC-controlled equipment, and process machinery.
  • Work on hydraulic and pneumatic systems, ensuring correct operation and safety compliance.
  • Support calibration and testing of production equipment in line with manufacturing specifications.

Continuous Improvement

  • Assist in the development of maintenance strategies to improve equipment reliability and performance.
  • Assist in the development of the engineering team including training, apprising and mentoring.
  • Contribute to engineering improvement projects, upgrades, and equipment installations.
  • Lead and provide technical input during root cause analysis investigations.

Safety & Compliance

  • Adhere to all relevant HSE policies, risk assessments, and permit-to-work procedures.
  • Ensure all plant and equipment conforms with regulations and standards.
  • Ensure all department training is up to date and relevant.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment in accordance with 5S standards.
  • Ensure all work complies with regulatory requirements and company standards.

Essential Knowledge / Skills / Experiences

  • Recognised apprenticeship or equivalent qualification (ONC/HNC, NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds) in Electrical, Mechanical, or Multi-Skilled Engineering.
  • Strong leadership ability.
  • Experience in supervision of maintenance staff and contractor, strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proven experience in a heavy manufacturing or continuous production environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical manuals.
  • Demonstrated strengths in fault finding and problem solving.

Preferred Knowledge / Skills / Experiences

  • Experience in cable manufacturing, wire production, or similar process industries.
  • Strong electrical skills (fault-finding, wiring, control systems) and good mechanical aptitude.
  • Working knowledge of PLC systems (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or similar) for diagnostics.
  • Familiarity with predictive maintenance techniques (vibration analysis, thermal imaging).
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations certification.
  • MEWP / forklift licence or other relevant industry tickets.

  • Strong problem-solving ability with a methodical approach.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Good communication skills – able to liaise with production, quality, and management teams.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities and shift patterns.

About Our Project In Port Of Nigg, Highland

The new factory at Nigg, with investment value announced by the Scottish Government of Β£350M, will make a significant contribution towards realisation of the UK Net Zero Target by contributing to critical electricity transmission infrastructure to connect and deliver renewable energy, including offshore wind, to UK consumers and beyond. In addition, the factory will create more than 150 highly skilled jobs in the Scottish Highlands, with maximum utilisation of the local supply chain for production of cables and construction of transmission cable systems.
