Offshore Construction Manager

Location: Preferred in Glasgow but open to hybrid (UK) with periodic project travel.

SUMITOMO ELECTRIC U.

POWER CABLES LTD is developing its EPC and Business Development department to deliver large‑scale cable projects in the UK and Europe.

The role is responsible for offshore construction, including transportation, installation of cables, and tendering.

  • Key Accountabilities
  • Offshore Construction Manager covering multiple cable EPC projects.
  • Supporting the Senior Construction Manager in various matters, including:
  • Leading tendering teams for offshore construction proposals, communicating with subcontractors or consortium partners.
  • Reviewing client tender documents and developing strategies to win the tender.
  • Requesting quotations and tenders from transport and installation companies, analysing and evaluating to ensure technical compliance, commercial competitiveness and programme alignment.
  • Preparing and submitting consolidated tenders with precise cost estimations, including cable jointing and qualification testing costs.
  • Conducting occasional site visits to construction sites (including offshore), manufacturing facilities and warehouses to support tender and project execution activities.
  • Supporting project phase transitions from tendering to pre‑construction and execution as required.
  • Supporting negotiation or business meetings with clients (Transmission Operators, Developers, etc.).
  • Supporting contract negotiations or interface management with subcontractors, suppliers and consortium partners.
  • Potential future involvement as a member of Project Management Organisation for a specific EPC project, organising planning/engineering/risk management/site works.

Essential/Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Experience

  • Over 10 years of experience managing transportation and installation cable projects, including cable lay and burial; high voltage offshore cable project experience preferred (e. g., interconnectors or export cables).
  • Familiarity with offshore (and onshore) construction works.
  • Strong leadership, SHEQ focus, good communication, ability to work with international teams, schedule and risk management, organisational and project management skills, training skills, IT skills, knowledge of ISO standards.
  • Ideally with a technical background in cable installation.
  • Main office location in Glasgow with hybrid working possible; business travel as needed.
