Overview
SUMITOMO ELECTRIC U.K. POWER CABLES LTD (SEUK) is developing its new EPC and Business Development department to strengthen design, engineering, tendering, managing and delivering large scale cable EPC projects in the UK and Europe. The position is for an Offshore Construction Manager based in Glasgow, responsible for offshore construction including transportation and installation of cables, offshore engineering and tendering for EPC projects.
Key Accountabilities
- Oversee offshore construction across multiple cable EPC projects.
- Support the Senior Construction Manager in tendering and project execution tasks, including:
- Lead tendering teams for offshore construction proposals and communicate with subcontractors or consortium partners.
- Review client tender documents, develop strategies to win tenders.
- Request quotations, conduct analyses and evaluations ensuring technical compliance, commercial competitiveness and programme alignment.
- Prepare and submit consolidated tenders with precise cost estimates, including cable jointing and qualification testing costs.
- Conduct site visits to construction sites (including offshore), manufacturing facilities and warehouses as needed.
- Assist transition of project phases from tendering to pre‑construction and execution.
- Support negotiations or business meetings with clients (Transmission Operators, Developers, etc.).
- Assist contract negotiations or interface management with subcontractors, suppliers and consortium partners.
- Potential future involvement in a Project Management Organisation for specific EPC projects, organising planning, engineering, risk management and site works.
Essential/Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Over 10 years of experience managing transportation and installation cable projects, including cable lay and burial.
- High voltage offshore cable project experience preferred (interconnectors or export cables).
- Familiarity with offshore and onshore construction works.
- Strong leadership, SHEQ focus, communication skills, ability to work with international teams, schedule and risk management, organisational and project management skills.
- Training skills, IT proficiency, knowledge of ISO standards.
- Technical background in cable installation is advantageous.
- Will be based in Glasgow with business travel as required; hybrid working arrangement discussed during interview.
