This is a pro-active role involving regular engagement with employees in all areas of the organisation to achieve and maintain excellent HSE behaviours and attitudes. To support Sumitomo Electric UK Power Cables Ltd to establish and maintain health, safety and environmental management systems to enable compliance with statutory requirements, implementation of best practices and to gain and maintain ISO45001 & ISO14001 certification.
Key Accountabilities
- Systems: Participate in the development and maintenance of the HSMS and EMS and provide support and advice to managers responsible for the implementation of management system requirements.
- Communication & Engagement: Use various methods of communication techniques to actively engage with all employees on HSE matters. Encourage reporting of incidents, near misses, hazards and good HSE behaviours, based on a fair culture, to drive continual improvement.
- Support & Advice: Advise and support Department Managers to develop risk assessment and COSHH assessment planners and advise on the assessment processes, including guidance on regulatory requirements. Assist with the development of department specific Safe Operating Procedures using information from the risk and COSHH assessments.
- Reporting: Support the HSE Administrator & Analyst with compilation of reports to enable timely submission to internal and external stakeholders.
- Audit: Carry out audits in accordance with the annual HSE audit schedule, produce reports, record and track corrective actions and verify the effectiveness of corrective actions. Facilitate audits by external parties.
- Inspections & Safety Tours: Support Senior and Department Managers to carry out safety tours and inspections, in accordance with the Inspection and Safety Tour schedules.
- Training: Develop and deliver in-house HSE training and assist HSE Administrator & Analyst to select suitable external training providers, as necessary.
- Meetings: Attend meetings to provide HSE advice and guidance, as directed by the HSE Manager.
- Investigation: Assist Department Managers to carry out investigations for HSE related incidents, including facilitating production of investigation reports, recording and tracking of corrective actions and verifying the effectiveness of corrective actions.
- HSE Team Support: Provide support to other members of the HSE Team as necessary.
Essential Knowledge/Skills/Experience
- Ability to plan & work effectively, with minimal supervision
- Ability to engage with employees in all areas of the organisation, to build relationships and trust
- Ability to effectively communicate legislative requirements and recommendations on how compliance may be achieved
- Effective communication skills, both verbal & written
- Good team working and ‘soft’ skills
- Commitment to professional standards & continual HSE performance improvement
- Ability to use own initiative effectively & to act proactively
- Ability to set and maintain high standards
- Ability to identify, analyse and solve problems
Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Experience
- Previous experience in a manufacturing related role
- Knowledge of root cause analysis tools and investigation techniques
- Experience of using HSE software
