Position at SUMITOMO ELECTRIC U.K. POWER CABLES LTD.
Location: Preferred in Glasgow but open to hybrid (UK) with periodic project travel.
Overview: SUMITOMO ELECTRIC U.K. POWER CABLES LTD (SEUK) is looking to develop their new EPC and Business Development department in order to strengthen its capability for design, engineering, tendering, managing and delivering large scale cable EPC projects in the UK and Europe. SEUK is looking for an Offshore Construction Manager, based in Glasgow, to be responsible for the offshore construction including transportation and installation of cables, offshore engineering and tendering for EPC projects.
Key Accountabilities:
- Offshore Construction Manager covering multiple cable EPC projects.
- Supporting the Senior Construction Manager for various matters, including:
- Leading tendering teams for offshore construction related proposals, including communications with subcontractors or consortium (JV) partners.
- Reviewing client tender documents and developing strategies to win tenders.
- Requesting quotations and tenders from transport and installation companies, and carrying out analyses and evaluations, ensuring technical compliance, commercial competitiveness and programme alignment.
- Preparing and submitting consolidated tenders reflecting precise cost estimations, including cable jointing and qualification testing costs.
- Conducting occasional site visits to construction sites (including offshore), manufacturing facilities and warehouses to support tender and project execution activities.
- Supporting project phase transitions from tendering to pre-construction and execution as required.
- Supporting negotiation or business meetings with clients (Transmission Operators, Developers, etc.).
- Supporting contract negotiations or interface management with subcontractors, suppliers and consortium (JV) partners.
- Future possibility to be involved as a member of Project Management Organisation for a specific EPC project, and organising planning/engineering/risk management/site works, etc.
Essential/Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Experiences:
- Over 10 years of experience within the management of Transportation and Installation Cable Projects, including cable lay and burial.
- High voltage offshore cable project experience is preferred, such as interconnectors or export cables.
- Familiarity with offshore (and onshore) construction works.
- A manager that shows strong leadership, SHEQ focus, good communication, ability to work with international teams, focused on schedule and risk management, organisation and project management skills, training skills, IT skills, knowledge of ISO standards, etc.
- Ideally with a technical background in cable installation.
Main office location will be in Glasgow plus business travels as needed. Hybrid working to be discussed during the interview process.
