SUMITOMO ELECTRIC U.K. POWER CABLES LTD. is seeking an accounting manager to oversee the company’s financial and closing-of-books operations. The accounting manager will be responsible for leading the accounting team, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting in compliance with both UK GAAP/IFRS, managing day-to-day accounting operations, tax compliance, and providing financial analysis to support strategic decision-making.
The role will involve coordinating and managing our company’s regulatory reporting process, budget planning, and supporting the executive management team in making the best possible business decisions.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Financial Reporting
- Oversee the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing process to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
- Review monthly financial and management reporting.
- Monitor the day-to-day financial operations within the company, such as invoicing, payment, and other transactions.
- Statutory Compliance
- Manage local statutory accounting and tax filings (Corporate Income Tax, Consumption Tax).
- Adhere to financial regulations and legislation.
- Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of accounting staff.
- Audit Management
- Act as the primary point of contact for external auditors and tax advisors.
- Monitor internal financial control.
- Process Improvement
- Streamline accounting processes, enhance internal controls, and implement system improvements.
- Maintain a control environment (monthly balance sheet reconciliations, P&L reviews).
- Develop risk minimising strategies.
- Establish and maintain financial policies and procedures for the company.
- Collaboration
- Coordinate with regional/global FP&A, Treasury, and Legal teams regarding transfer pricing, intercompany transactions, and reporting.
- Work with other departments within the company to prepare budgets and carry out related tasks.
- Develop long-term business plans based on financial reports.
- Provide advice on future business decisions.
Key Interfaces
- 5+ years experience in a similar role.
- CA/CPA qualified accountant.
- Experience in planning and management reporting.
- Sound technical and practical knowledge of accounting and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills.
Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Experience
- Qualified Accountant.
- Professional Accounting qualification (CPA or CA).
- MSDD365 FO experience.
- Work experience in a Japanese company.
