Waiter/Waitress - SUMI, Notting Hill

SUMI opened on Westbourne Grove in 2021 and has become one of Notting Hill’s most loved neighbourhood restaurants. Created by renowned sushi master Endo Kazutoshi and part of Creative Restaurant Group, SUMI serves nigiri, temaki and dishes from the robata grill, with warm, genuine hospitality at its heart. We’re looking for a Waiter/Waitress to join our team and grow with us.

The Role
As a Waiter/Waitress, you will be at the heart of the SUMI experience, offering warm, attentive and knowledgeable service throughout every guest’s visit. Many of our guests are regulars, so getting to know them is a big part of what we do. You will work closely with the Head Waiter and wider team as one team, from preparing the restaurant and welcoming guests to serving food and drinks.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Welcoming guests with warmth and professionalism
• Preparing the restaurant and keeping presentation excellent throughout service
• Serving food and drinks promptly and accurately
• Learning our menus, ingredients, daily specials and allergen procedures
• Answering questions confidently and making thoughtful recommendations, including sake and drinks pairings
• Taking and processing orders accurately through the till system
• Recognising regular guests and remembering their preferences
• Anticipating guests’ needs and responding quickly to requests
• Supporting the Head Waiter and wider team to deliver seamless service
• Setting, clearing and resetting tables efficiently
• Following opening, closing, hygiene and safety procedures
• Taking part in daily briefings and ongoing training

What We’re Looking For
Previous experience in a quality restaurant or hospitality setting would be an advantage. We are just as interested in people with the right attitude, energy and desire to learn.

You will need:

• A genuine love of hospitality and looking after guests
• A warm, confident and professional manner
• Strong communication skills and a team first attitude
• Excellent attention to detail and high personal standards
• The ability to stay calm and organised during busy services
• An interest in Japanese food and drink and a wish to keep learning
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and bank holidays

Salary: Upto £16p/h including service charge, plus benefits
