Created by renowned sushi master Endo Kazutoshi and part of Creative Restaurant Group, SUMI is known for exceptional Japanese food, expert craft and genuine hospitality. We're looking for a Pastry Commis Chef to join our founding team from day one and grow with us.
The Role
As Pastry Commis Chef, you will support our pastry section in creating desserts that bring Japanese ingredients and technique to every guest's final course. You will work closely with the Pastry Chef, Head Chef and wider kitchen as one team, from daily preparation through to plating during service. This is a brilliant opportunity for someone who wants to build their pastry skills, learn Japanese ingredients and technique, and build a lasting career in professional kitchens.
What You'll Be Doing
- Preparing pastry and dessert components to recipe and standard
- Plating desserts with care and consistency during service
- Learning our menus, ingredients and allergen procedures
- Working with Japanese ingredients such as matcha, yuzu, black sesame and miso
- Weighing, measuring and following recipes accurately
- Managing your mise en place and keeping the section organised
- Labelling, storing and rotating stock correctly
- Supporting the Pastry Chef and wider kitchen to deliver seamless service
- Following opening, closing, hygiene and food safety procedures
- Taking part in daily briefings and ongoing training
What We're Looking For
Previous experience in a pastry section or a culinary qualification would be an advantage. We are just as interested in people with the right attitude, energy and desire to learn. You will need:
- A genuine love of pastry and an eye for detail
- Accuracy and care when following recipes
- A willingness to learn and take on feedback
- The ability to stay calm and organised during busy services
- A team first attitude and good communication
- High standards of cleanliness and food safety
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and bank holidays
Salary: Upto £14.01 p/h, plus benefits
Why Join Us?
At Creative Restaurant Group, we want people to build careers, not simply fill roles. You will learn alongside experienced chefs and have genuine opportunities to progress into Demi Chef de Partie and Pastry Chef de Partie positions as your skills develop.
- Join an exciting new restaurant opening from the very beginning
- Hands on training in pastry and Japanese ingredients
- Clear opportunities for career progression
- The chance to grow across Creative Restaurant Group
- Staff meals while on duty
- Employee discounts across participating restaurants
