Due to organic growth and expansion as a result of ongoing acquisitions, we are seeking an experienced and dynamic Private Client Tax Manager to join our Private Client team. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical tax knowledge and be able to provide strategic commercial advice to clients on tax planning and risk management. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing client relationships, assisting and leading projects, and contributing to the growth of our private client tax practice. The role entails managing all day-to-day aspects of a portfolio of private clients and although focused on compliance responsibilities there will also be opportunities to be involved with leading and supporting on tax advisory work.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as principal manager contact for a portfolio of clients within the Private Client Team, taking responsibility for the review process of all compliance work relating to the client’s affairs.
- Liaise with the Senior Management Team in connection with the management of your client portfolio and development of tax team members as regards productivity, recovery and billing targets and training and development.
- Support the development of team members at all levels including mentoring, assisting in training, undertaking personal development reviews and improving performance and efficiency where relevant.
- Provide timely feedback on work and performance matters.
- Developing new client relationships and assisting in business development opportunities generally.
- Provide ad hoc advisory services to clients.
- Manage the successful delivery of all aspects of the personal tax compliance function for a portfolio of clients.
- Mentor and develop the Private Client Tax team, ensuring high standards of performance and professional growth.
- Identify and mitigate tax risks for clients, ensuring all work is both technically and ethically compliant having regard to professional standards.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Proven experience in a private client tax managerial role, ideally within a top 30 professional services firm.
- Relevant professional qualifications (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CTA, or equivalent).
- Deep understanding of all tax law and regulations in relation to personal tax compliance, along with a track record in undertaking client advisory work.
- Strong experience in managing client relationships and leading projects.
- Commercial mindedness and managing the financial aspects of client service, such as the provision of fee quotes, monitoring budgets/recoveries and billing.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a strategic mindset.
- Strong leadership skills, with experience in team development and mentoring.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency in tax software (CCH) and tax research platforms (i.e. Croner-i/LexisNexis).
