About the role
Sulzer GT Aero is seeking an experienced RB211 Gas Turbine Training Officer to support our growing MRO operations. This is a fantastic internal opportunity for a time-served, hands-on RB211 specialist who is passionate about developing others and driving technical excellence across our workforce.
Department: Engineering / Field Service / Operations Training
Location: Aberdeen (Netherley) / On-site
Reports To: Operations Manager
Role Purpose: To design, deliver, and continuously improve training programmes focused on the RB211 gas turbine, ensuring personnel are competent, compliant, and capable in the strip, inspect, build and troubleshooting of the equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Training Delivery
- Deliver classroom and practical training on:
- RB211 gas turbine systems and components
- Strip, inspect, build and operation, maintenance, and fault diagnosis
- Health, Safety & Environmental procedures
- Conduct hands-on training in workshop and field environments
- Assess trainee competency through tests, practical evaluations, and observations
- Course Development & Material Management
- Develop and maintain structured training package, including:
- Training manuals
- Presentations and technical guides
- Assessment tools
- Ensure training content is:
- Technically accurate
- Aligned with Sulzer standards
- Updated to reflect operational feedback and modifications
- Competency & Compliance
- Maintain competency matrices for personnel working on RB211 units
- Ensure all training meets: Company standards & Regulatory requirements (client-specific)
- Support audits and provide training records as required
- Technical Support & Knowledge Transfer
- Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for RB211 gas turbines
- Support operations and maintenance teams with Technical queries & Fault investigations
- Capture lessons learned from field activities and integrate into training
- Continuous Improvement
- Gather feedback from trainees and operations teams
- Identify gaps in knowledge, skills, or training delivery
- Drive improvements in training efficiency, effectiveness, and engagement
Qualifications & Experience
- Essential
- Strong working knowledge of RB211 gas turbine systems
- Experience in turbine maintenance, overhaul, or field service
- Previous experience delivering or supporting technical training
- Relevant engineering qualification (e.g. HNC/HND or equivalent experience)
- Desirable
- Formal training/assessor qualification (e.g. Train the Trainer, A1 Assessor)
- Experience in offshore or oil & gas environments
- Familiarity with competency management systems
