About The Role
The Electrical Engineer is responsible for designing and developing mechanical systems and components. This role applies engineering knowledge to support the planning, testing, and implementation of mechanical and electromechanical systems. The individual with this position will have to split their time between the engineering team objectives, field service, field service reports, and shop engineering support. This engineering position will entail a dual role with hands‑on responsibilities along with other engineering tasks. It is expected that the individual will need training as part of the onboarding process and Sulzer will accommodate.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical support and assistance on customer requests – on phone and on site.
- Carry out unplanned on‑site services and troubleshooting on electrical installation, including electrical rotating equipment (motors and generators).
- Prepare and perform planned preventive maintenance checks (PM) on electrical machines including AC/DC motors and generators, using applicable tools.
- Receive and study any relevant engineering documents related to a project to formulate project roadmaps.
- Observe, follow and support all Safety Policies, Environmental Policies, and ISO Procedures.
- Manage and oversee tasks as assigned by O.L.s.
- Responsible for developing innovative processes and procedures using the latest technologies to support business growth.
- Attend weekly production meetings.
- Help develop field service procedures for various fault case scenarios.
- Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date notes of the projects FSE is involved in and furnish reports as required immediately after the conclusion of the project or as requested by the customer.
- Communicate with the O.L.s, and field service team members, as necessary regarding the progress of a project.
- Immediately follow up on customer requests to resolve the issue in the most efficient way possible.
- Be part of the quick response team to provide service/updates to the customers as soon as possible.
- Stay in constant communication with O.L. to be able to assist in shop projects as required.
- Learn repair procedures which may be task specific from the Senior Colleagues and implement and improve on them.
- Communicate to the team as required regarding customer specific directives on milestones to be achieved in the course of the project.
- Be enthusiastic to cross the boundaries of current technical expertise to learn more.
- Role will involve travel to customer sites for diagnosis and repair.
Qualifications
- 4 years' experience in the following field of electrical engineering.
- Electric motor, generators repairs and design.
- Transformer repair and design.
- Switch gear design and diagnostics.
- Power semiconductors.
- Proficient in basic power theory.
- Know how in the following topics: Operations of induction motors, Operations of synchronous motors, Transformer principle, Operation of semiconductors, Winding insulation tests.
