Global Projects | International Team | GIS, Cartography & Offshore Survey Support

Are you passionate about geospatial data, marine survey technology, and high-quality cartographic production? We're looking for a talented GIS Specialist / Cartographer to join a dynamic Data Team supporting hydrographic survey and inspection projects across global operations. This is an exciting opportunity when you'll be combining technical GIS expertise with visual storytelling, automation, and spatial data management in a fast-paced offshore and geoscience environment. Location - ideally, Norwich, other Sulmara offices could be considered - Glasgow, Aberdeen or Bristol.

What You'll Be Doing

  • As a key member of the Data Team, you'll help deliver accurate, high-quality GIS and charting outputs that support critical hydrographic and inspection operations.
  • You'll collaborate closely with geophysicists, data processors, and commercial teams to ensure seamless geospatial workflows and project delivery.

GIS & Geospatial Data Management

  • Supporting tender line planning activities and carrying out quality control on survey line plans.
  • Delivering GIS support and data products for hydrographic survey and inspection projects.
  • Developing, managing, and maintaining ESRI geodatabases within the SSDM framework.
  • Managing structured data storage and version control processes.
  • Creating and editing ArcGIS Pro projects to internal and client specifications.
  • Performing coordinate system management and custom spatial transformations using: ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, Global Mapper, AutoCAD.
  • Automating geospatial workflows and data pipelines using Python, SQL, and ESRI tools.
  • Creating and maintaining metadata documentation for spatial datasets.
  • Building GIS web applications and templates.
  • Ensuring GIS data quality assurance and compliance with project requirements.
  • Staying up to date with emerging GIS and geospatial technologies and recommending improvements.

Cartography & Data Visualisation

  • Producing advanced visualisations of survey and spatial datasets.
  • Preparing chart series in AutoCAD and ArcGIS Pro to client specifications.
  • Developing cartographic standards, templates, and best practices.
  • Creating charts, graphs, and analytical visuals to support reporting and interpretation.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary offshore and onshore teams to deliver high-quality outputs.

What You'll Ideally Have

  • A degree in GIS, Information Science, Geomatics, Geography, or a related discipline.
  • Practical experience in GIS data delivery or geospatial project support.
  • Strong working knowledge of: ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, Global Mapper, AutoCAD.
  • Experience with geospatial databases and data management concepts.
  • Familiarity with automation tools including Python, SQL, and ESRI workflows.
  • Experience creating maps, chart series, and visual geospatial deliverables.
  • Knowledge of spatial analysis and geospatial statistics.
  • The ability to thrive in a deadline‑driven, international team environment.
