We are delighted to be recruiting for Northumberland County Council who are seeking an exceptional professional to join the People and Culture Senior Leadership Team as Strategic People and Culture Partner. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of the workforce and culture within Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service and across the wider Council. This is a two year fixed term contract initially as this is a pivotal time for Northumberland Fire and Rescue service, which has recently faced cultural challenges, and they are committed to creating an environment built on trust, respect and accountability.
Working alongside their soon to be appointed Chief Fire Officer (CFO), they need an experienced People professional who can inspire confidence, champion inclusion and drive positive change. Reporting to the Director of People and Culture, as Strategic People and Culture Partner, you will act as a trusted strategic advisor to senior leaders within the Fire Service, enabling delivery of organisational objectives through effective people strategies. You will drive workforce transformation, cultural change, and leadership development, ensuring alignment with corporate priorities, values, and behaviours.
In this role you will champion inclusion, equality, and wellbeing across the Fire and Rescue Service and the wider Council and lead on leveraging data and insight to shape decisions and create an inclusive, high-performing, and future-ready workforce. You will coach and mentor senior leaders on effective leadership practices, employee engagement, and performance management as well as facilitating strategic workforce planning, succession planning, and leadership pipeline development.
This role is both strategic and hands-on, requiring a deep understanding of organisational dynamics and a passion for creating inclusive, high-performing environments. We are looking for a strategic HR and organisational development professional with experience of leading cultural change in complex organisations. With strong influencing skills and the ability to work collaboratively at the highest levels you will be a values-driven leader who inspires confidence and champions inclusion, integrity, and accountability.
A CIPD qualification (or equivalent experience) and a track record of delivering transformation in a public sector or similar environment is desirable.
This role offers a salary range of £63,785 up to £67,561 along with outstanding benefits including a generous annual leave (starting at 26 days and rising to 31 after 5 years' service), attractive local government pension scheme, flexi scheme, agile working, leadership development, wellbeing support, and local government discount schemes.
