About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate and experienced SEN Teacher to provide 1:1 tailored education for a secondary-aged young person with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The learner presents with needs in cognition and learning, social, emotional and mental health (SEMH), and sensory processing. They demonstrate strong numeracy skills and the potential to achieve age-related expectations but require consistent support with motivation, emotional regulation, comprehension, and engagement – particularly in reading and written tasks. The role will involve delivering personalised, structured sessions that build confidence, promote independence, and support preparation for further education and adulthood.

Responsibilities
- Create a calm, structured, and positive learning environment
- Plan and deliver differentiated lessons tailored to individual needs and EHCP outcomes
- Support engagement in literacy and numeracy, including developing comprehension and inference skills
- Implement strategies to support emotional regulation, confidence, and motivation
- Adapt teaching approaches to accommodate sensory sensitivities (e.g., noise, overwhelm)
- Build trusting relationships and encourage communication and self-expression
- Work collaboratively with family and professionals to ensure consistent support
- Promote independence, resilience, and preparation for college or future pathways
- Provide regular session feedback and progress reports
Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent (e.g., PGCE)
- Minimum 2 years’ teaching experience
- Strong experience supporting students with ASD and SEMH needs
- Experience delivering Maths and English at KS4 level (GCSE)
- Understanding of sensory processing needs and adaptive teaching strategies
- Ability to engage learners with fluctuating motivation and anxiety around learning
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
- Right to work in the UK
- Strong safeguarding knowledge and commitment to best practice
