We are seeking a compassionate, resilient, and tactful Female Support Worker to assist an independent 65-year-old lady in her own flat. She is a wheelchair user who enjoys keeping things low-key at home with occasional visits to the local shop.
She manages insulin-dependent Type 2 diabetes (supported twice daily by District Nurses) and Korsakoff's dementia, which impacts her short-term memory and can cause confabulation (filling memory gaps unintentionally) and fluctuating moods.
Weekly Pay - PAYE or Umbrella
Holiday Pay (PAYE)
Ongoing support from our Nurse Care Manager and Registered Manager
Free clinical and theory training from experienced nurses
Refer a Friend scheme (T&Cs apply)
Key Responsibilities
- Support with daily living tasks while respecting and promoting her independence and choices
- Deliver tactful, person-centred assistance, allowing her to accept support at her own pace
- Assist with establishing and maintaining a comfortable daily routine and sleep schedule
- Work alongside District Nurses assisting with her Type 2 diabetes management
- Provide understanding and consistent care for Korsakoff's dementia, managing memory lapses, confabulation, and mood fluctuations
- Manage occasional challenging behavior (including verbal abuse) using calm communication and de-escalation skills
- Support her safety in accordance with DoLS guidelines
- Accompany on short outings to the local shop as requested
- Maintain accurate records and report concerns to the care team
- Ensure a safe, respectful, person-centred environment
Key Requirements
- Non-drivers welcome (driving licence/vehicle not required)
- Flexibility to work 12-hour day and night shifts across weekdays and weekends
- Previous experience supporting individuals with dementia (Korsakoff's preferred), diabetes, or complex behavioral needs
- Minimum 6 months of professional care experience
- Right to work in the UK
- Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
- Up-to-date CV with full work history
You’ll be part of a team committed to supporting individuals with complex care needs to build independence, confidence, and a better quality of life through personalised, compassionate care and tailored support.
