About the role

We are looking for a reliable, patient and understanding carer, preferably someone experienced with spinal injuries or complex care needs. You must be comfortable working in a home environment, supporting both independence and safety. You will be supporting our service user living with atraumatic spinal cord injury resulting in paralysis from the chest down. Our client uses an electric wheelchair and requires support with a range of daily living activities.

Key responsibilities:

  • Personal care, including bowel care and assistance in bed
  • Help and support with physiotherapy exercises for arms and legs
  • Support in the kitchen (our service user enjoys cooking but requires assistance)
  • Assistance with eating, as they have difficulty swallowing
  • Accompanying them to pub visits, meals out with family, and holidays
  • Communication awareness: their speech can sometimes be difficult to understand, and they may speak louder to make themselves clearer—this is not aggression, so applicants should be patient and confident in communication

Requirements for the Role:

Here at Sugarman Health and Wellbeing, we are looking for an outgoing, bubbly candidate who can show their best assets in providing the highest quality of support. A minimum of 6 months of professional UK Care experience. Complex Care experience preferred, but not a mandatory need. To provide the correct compliance documents, including updated Right to Work and original DBS certificate.

Sugarman Health and Wellbeing is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applications regardless of sex, age, race, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, religion and belief, pregnancy and maternity or disability.
