Job Description:
A competent but family/child friendly and flexible cook is required for a private household based near Stow on the Wold. The clients arrive on 31st August, so 30th August is needed to prep/shop. Accommodation can be provided locally for someone who is not local. Driver preferred (with own car) due to the rural location, but not essential.
The family would like the same cook for the duration – there may be some lunches/dinners when they go out – which is often decided last minute, so the cook needs to be relatively flexible to work around the clients last minute requests and take each day as running differently (there is not a routine).
On a normal day, the meals required would be breakfast (eggs, fruit platters, smoothies etc), lunch (platter style salads etc) and dinner (again platter style food) – all organic, healthy, seasonal produce and sustainability is very important – so no wastage and using up foods well/creating new dishes with any left overs. The clients eat early dinners – usually they eat around 6/6.30pm, so it is rarely late nights late into the evening unless there is the odd occasion where they have a dinner party. Adults and children eat together. The odd healthy cake/snack is also appreciated. Hours tend to be around 7am start, 7/7.30pm finish.
You will work in the kitchen which is central to the home – and the family will be constantly in and out of the kitchen – so the cook needs to be happy with having children, adults and dogs around them – as well as other staff members. They must have a friendly and approachable attitude and be kind to everyone. They must not mind making the odd coffee/tea/drink when requested as well, or doing some fun baking with the children would always go down well! The cook must be happy to cook for additional staff members (nannies) and cater to any diet requirements.
The chef will mainly be responsible for menu planning, shopping/ordering, cooking and washing up of cooking dishes/utensils and keeping the kitchen clean. There are other staff in the house ( housekeepers and nannies) so they will assist with laying/clearing tables, but it is important the cook is flexible and has a \’muck in attitude\’ and it is essential that everyone works well as a team.
Good, modern style food required – lots of fish, vegetables, sushi, Mexican and Thai food is also enjoyed – but not formal – it is not restaurant style food. The main family consist of two adults and three young children, and there will be visiting guests so it is important there is always enough food to feed any last minute guests. The property has a Pizza Oven and outside grill, so the cook should be happy to make pizzas in the pizza oven and use the BBQ when the weather is good.
Someone organised, efficient, friendly but discreet is essential. Full references will be checked. If you are available, please e mail [emailprotected] with your CV, food images, expected day rate and sample menus. You will need to be prepared to work every day for the duration of the stint.
