Overview
Student Support & Safeguarding Officer (on-site) – Starting salary is £29,007 per annum pro rata. 14.8 hours per week (2 days), 52 weeks per year.
This is an exciting opportunity to work within a pro-active, multi-functional team providing support, advice and guidance on a range of topics to both existing and prospective learners at Suffolk New College.
You will manage a caseload of learners and offer support, information and guidance in order to enable them to stay on programme and achieve or progress onto a positive outcome.
Naturally able to relate to young people, you should be enthusiastic and determined to offer the best advice and to succeed with each individual you work with. You will need to be motivational in your approach with young people and be able to offer them a range of strategies and support to assist them with any concerns and help them achieve.
You will need to be highly organised, learner-focused, an effective communicator and enjoy working as part of a busy team. You should also have a Level 2 qualification or equivalent in English and Maths, and a relevant Level 3 qualification.
Within this role, you will also be a Safeguarding Officer as part of the College’s Safeguarding Team, therefore you will need to have current Designated Safeguarding Lead training or demonstrate a commitment to undertake this within a specified period.
The role is based at Suffolk New College, Ipswich Campus, however as Suffolk New College is a multi-campus college, you may be required to work at and travel between campuses.

Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of learners and provide support, information and guidance to help them stay on programme and achieve or progress to a positive outcome.

- Act as Safeguarding Officer as part of the College’s Safeguarding Team; maintain current Designated Safeguarding Lead training or commit to undertaking within the specified period.
- Be willing to work on-site at Suffolk New College, Ipswich Campus, with potential travel between campuses as required.
