Your role and responsibilities
You\’ll be taking phone calls from members of the public, responding to questions, booking appointments and ceremonies and carrying out searches of the historic records. This will include the handling of financial transactions and the responsibility of working with secure stock and maintaining records in relation to a range of registration service activities. You will also be required to undertake reception duties greeting and directing visitors to the office. You will be responding to enquiries in writing and directing people to our on-line digital channels. You will also be expected to register civil ceremonies during office hours. When registering ceremonies you will be travelling around the county. From time to time, you may be required to mentor and train less experienced colleagues and deputise for more senior staff.
You will need
- To be educated to level 3 standard or have clear evidence of an equivalent level of knowledge and experience
- To thrive on accuracy and excel in fast-paced environments
- Excellent customer service and teamworking skills
- To be able to keep calm under pressure, have a sharp eye for detail, and can confidently manage groups while maintaining a professional appearance
- Ability to navigate tricky situations and resolve conflicts.

The team
The Suffolk Registration Service is responsible for the registration of births, deaths and marriages, civil partnership and citizenship ceremonies. Registration Assistants carry out a varied range of administration support functions across all areas of the service. They are also required to register and/or conduct ceremonies in local authority ceremony rooms and at a range of locations across the county.
