We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity to join Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service’s Business Support Team as a Business Support Coordinator. This is a varied and rewarding role within a small, busy team that sits at the heart of the service, providing high-quality administrative support and acting as the non-emergency voice of the organisation.

If you have recent experience coordinating a range of administrative duties, enjoy delivering excellent customer service over the phone, and are motivated by working in a fast-paced environment where you can make a positive difference for the communities of Suffolk, we would love to hear from you.

Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will lead on providing administrative support of all areas supported by the Business Support Team. You will work closely with colleagues to ensure non-emergency calls are answered promptly and enquiries are handled efficiently and professionally. On a daily basis, you will liaise with staff and senior leaders across the Fire and Rescue Service, helping to deliver effective support to teams and contributing to positive outcomes for the communities we serve.

We are excited to be expanding our team, reflecting the value placed on our work and the high standards we consistently deliver.

You will need

We are looking for someone with a positive, can-do attitude and a genuine desire to learn and develop. You will need a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Teams and SharePoint, to succeed in the role. You’ll be comfortable working collaboratively as part of a team, supporting shared goals, while also being able to work independently when required. Strong communication skills and confidence when dealing with colleagues and members of the public are essential.

The Business Support Team is based at Fire Service Headquarters in Endeavour House, Ipswich, and plays a key role in supporting departments across the Fire & Rescue Service. As the non-emergency link to the public, the team is involved in a wide range of activities at the heart of the organisation. There are opportunities to support service events such as Open Days and the County Show, as well as to work closely with teams across the service.

Being based at Endeavour House also places you within the catchment area of the Ipswich Princes Street on-call crew, should you wish to explore operational response opportunities. The role operates on a hybrid basis in line with Suffolk County Council policy and will require working across two nearby locations. We are flexible and happy to discuss individual arrangements confidentially, including alternative council locations or home-working days where appropriate. There will be a requirement to be office-based during the initial training period.

Empowering Everyone

We’re big believers in potential, possibility and the power of different ideas. We’re always searching for ways to encourage, respect and enable everyone to be the best they can be. We want to represent the diverse communities we serve. We welcome applications from all individuals, especially those from groups that are currently underrepresented in the organisation.
