This is a great time to join Ipswich Borough Council as we look to deliver some interesting capital projects for our operational estate within the borough’s boundaries, along with a wide range of maintenance work to both our existing and new stock. You will be responsible for the delivery of compliance and health and safety monitoring on a wide range of maintenance and refurbishment projects (from inception to final account) on properties including: sports centres, swimming pools, a Grade 1 listed mansion, the Town Hall and Corn Exchange, theatre and any other new buildings added to the corporate stock.

You will play a pivotal role in delivering maintenance projects on all our corporate stock. You should have a background in building surveying, construction health and safety or similar industry experience and be able to lead teams of external consultants to deliver projects safely, on time and to budget.

Working from the council’s head office (Grafton House) and agile too, you will be able to manage your time effectively to deliver tasks for which your projects require, this may require early starts or the occasional evening meeting, public consultations (sometimes at weekends) or multiple site meetings away from the office.

As a construction professional you’ll be as happy in an office environment as you are on site in inclement weather and be able to relate to all levels from site contractors through to Senior Clients such as Councillors and Directors.

You will have:

  • a degree level education plus 5 years relevant experience or proven equivalent level of technical and organisational knowledge in related field or equivalent experience.
  • a relevant professional qualification covering building or construction MIRCS, MCIOB, TechIOSH or equivalent.
  • up to date knowledge of technical and procedural developments in relevant field.
  • This is a hybrid working role (a minimum of 2 days per week working in the office).
