As part of Suffolk Primary Care, which is a group of 8 GP practices across Suffolk, we are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and flexible Advanced Nurse Practitioner or Paramedic Practitioner preferably with a prescribing qualification to join our team at Derby Road in Ipswich who look after 19,400 patients. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in our urgent, on-the-day care service, supporting both adults and children with a wide range of minor illnesses.

Derby Road have 2 sites, based in the heart of Ipswich, with close travel links to the beautiful Suffolk countryside.

The vacancy is for 20 hours a week on a Thursday and Friday 8-6.30pm. Flexibility is crucial to accommodate training, holidays etc.

We have an established team with a strong focus on customer service and communication. We would love to hear from candidates with GP surgery experience although we would also like to hear from those that can show flexibility and a range of transferable skills.

The successful candidate should be able to work calmly and professionally as part of a team. You should have the ability to multi-task. A strong command of written and spoken English with an excellent telephone manner is a must. Good time management skills and the ability to follow protocols and or instruction and attention to detail is essential.

Main duties of the job

  • Work within professional boundaries to accurately examine and assess patients with an undifferentiated diagnosis, from a physiological, psychological and social perspective, and plan clinical care accordingly.
  • Diagnose and manage both acute and chronic conditions, integrating both drug and non-drug-based treatment methods into a management plan.
  • Seek advice and support from a senior clinician as appropriate to inform decision making around patient care.
  • Prioritise health problems and intervene appropriately to assist the patient in complex, urgent or emergency situations, including initiation of effective emergency care.
  • Review medication for therapeutic effectiveness appropriate to patient needs, and administer medication in accordance with PGD/ Independent Nurse Prescribing.
  • Provide information and advice on prescribed or non-prescription medication, on medication regimens, side-effects and interactions.
  • Work with patients in order to support compliance with and adherence to prescribed treatments.
  • Ensure full and accurate documentation in patient notes of clinical history, physical examination, diagnosis and treatment plan.
