At Suffolk County Council, innovation is at the heart of everything we do.

We\’re looking for a creative and driven Performance and Data Analyst to help us turn data into meaningful insight that supports our frontline services. If you\’re passionate about making information clear, accessible and useful; and want your work to genuinely influence decisions, we\’d love to hear from you.

Your role and responsibilities

As a Performance and Data Analyst in our Performance and Improvement Team, you\’ll help transform complex operational data into insight that supports Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service to perform at its best.

This is a hands‑on analytical role where you\’ll balance data analysis with the design of intuitive, self‑service dashboards. You\’ll help colleagues across the service understand performance, monitor progress, and make confident, evidence‑based decisions.

On a typical day, you might:

  • Analyse performance and operational data to identify trends, risks and opportunities.
  • Build and develop clear, user‑friendly dashboards in Power BI for independent use.
  • Support the adoption of self‑service reporting and help improve data literacy across teams.
  • Work closely with the Performance and Improvement Manager to compile reports and monitor action plans.
  • Carry out data validation and quality checks to ensure reporting is accurate and reliable.
  • Use Microsoft tools such as Excel, Lists, Forms and SharePoint to streamline data collection and improve processes.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement work by turning insight into practical recommendations.
  • Provide analytical and quality assurance support, helping build resilience across key reporting activities.

Your work will directly support internal performance management, statutory reporting and service improvement. The insight you provide will help shape decisions that impact communities across Suffolk.

You will need

We\’re looking for someone who enjoys working with data but also understands that insight only matters if people can use it.

  • Experience in a data analysis, performance or improvement‑focused role.
  • Strong skills in Power BI, Excel and SQL.
  • Experience creating dashboards that are clear, intuitive and accessible.
  • Confidence explaining complex information in a simple, engaging way.
  • A methodical approach to data quality, accuracy and governance.
  • The ability to manage your own workload and meet deadlines.
  • A proactive mindset: someone who spots opportunities to improve processes rather than waiting to be asked.

A Level 5 qualification in a relevant area (or equivalent knowledge and experience) is desirable.

Experience working with performance frameworks, KPIs or within a public sector or emergency service environment would be beneficial; but it\’s not essential. If you\’re motivated, analytical and keen to make a difference, we encourage you to apply even if you don\’t meet every single requirement.

You can view a full list of requirements in the Job and Person Profile (Word).

The team

The Performance and Improvement Team plays a vital role in supporting Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service. We collect, validate and interpret data that informs internal performance management and statutory reporting to organisations such as MHCLG (Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government), NFCC (National Fire Chiefs Council) and HMICFRS (His Majesties Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services).

We\’re a small, collaborative and supportive team who value curiosity, professionalism and continuous improvement. We work flexibly and support each other to develop skills across different areas, ensuring we remain resilient and responsive in a dynamic emergency service environment.

Empowering Everyone

We\’re big believers in potential, possibility and the power of different ideas. We\’re always searching for ways to encourage, respect and enable everyone to be the best they can be. We want to represent the diverse communities we serve. We welcome applications from all individuals, especially those from groups that are currently underrepresented in the organisation, as shown in our Workforce Equality Report.

Benefits

  • up to 29 days annual leave entitlement (pro rata), plus UK bank holidays and two paid volunteering days
  • membership of a competitive Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS)
  • travel, lifestyle, health and wellbeing benefits
  • performance‑related annual pay progression, in addition to an annual cost‑of‑living pay increase
  • training and encouragement to expand your knowledge
  • a variety of career development opportunities across our organisation
  • diverse and active staff networks
  • flexible working options, with the right to request flexible working from your first day

This authority is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) checks or police vetting will be required for relevant posts.
